Baseball America has named Jason Heyward the Rookie of the Year in the National League. This is not the official award, which is voted on by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and will be announced in mid-November.
Heyward looks like he is deserving of the award. Despite the Giants’ Buster Posey having a great season at catcher, Heyward was more productive this season.
Jason has a higher on base percentage, higher weighted on base average (wOBA), and a higher Fangraphs WAR. Overall, Heyward helped his team in the regular season more than Posey did, and he is absolutely deserving of the recognition that he is getting from Baseball America. We will see in mid-November if the BWAA agrees.
