Minnesota Wild At Atlanta Thrashers Score: Thrashers Take The Win, 5-1

There was a football game around the corner? Who knew? Attendance tonight at the Thrashers game was surprisingly good once folks cut through all of the nightmarish traffic and tailgating for the Ravens/Falcons game. It was worth it for the fans who chose to attend the hockey game instead, as the Thrashers took it to the Minnesota Wild in a surprising 5-1 lead. Surprising, because the Wild allow more than half of the goals that the Thrashers scored tonight in a usual game.

No powerplay goals were scored tonight, but Freddy Modin scored a short handed goal and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 32 shots for his first win of the season. Most notable about this game that Modin’s short handed goal, Andrew Ladd’s goal in the second period, and Jim Slater’s in the first period all came from driving the net and getting into position for a rebound. Slater and Ladd both took complete advantage of a wide-open net, which is what they needed to do on Marty Turco last Saturday night.

In case you missed it (like because you were at that thing around the corner), here’re the Thrashers five goals:

Ben Eager:

Jim Slater:

Andrew Ladd:

Freddy Modin:

Nik Antropov:

Your next chance to see the Thrashers is Saturday night when the floundering Pittsburgh Penguins come to town. Starter Marc-Andre Fleury is still having issues, and not having a winger for Crosby’s becoming a problem. Let’s see the Thrashers string back to back home wins together.
