Braves Fall To Mets' Santana

One paragraph recap:

The Braves didn’t end the first half the way they had hoped, with a sweep of the Mets, but they did manage to win another series and add another game to their division lead. Johan Santana was too tough, as both he and Braves starter Derek Lowe did a good job of pitching around baserunners — although Santana did a much better job.

Tim Hudson Dominates Mets As Braves Secure The Series Win

One paragraph recap:

Tim Hudson had his breaking ball working, as he held the Mets to just four hits, and got 12 ground ball outs to four fly ball outs including three double plays. Hudson also helped the team at the plate with two hits, including an RBI double. Omar Infante had three more hits, and the Braves had 15 total hits as they beat the Mets 4-to-0 to guarantee that they will win the series and have at least a four game lead in the division going into the All-Star break.

Cabrera And Infante Lead Braves Past Mets In Game One

One paragraph recap:

The Braves kept the Mets close and then used back-to-back solo home runs with two out in the seventh inning to take the lead for good. Melky Cabrera had the first solo shot, followed immediately by Omar Infante. Cabrera and Infante also combined for seven of the Braves 12 hits and scored all four runs for Atlanta. The Braves bullpen was once again spectacular, getting Tommy Hanson out of a jam in the sixth, and keeping the Mets off the scoreboard for the final three innings.

Braves Set To Close Out The First Half Against The Mets

The Braves are set to close out the first half of the season with three games in New York against the Mets before the All-Star break. Entering the series the Mets are three games behind the NL East leading Braves. This will be an important series to see if the Braves can hold off the Mets and increase their division lead. On the other hand, the Mets could significantly narrow the gap or even tie the Braves for the division lead if they were to sweep.

The series will feature some superb pitching matchups, and be another tough test for Atlanta.

Tommy Hanson will square off against knuckle-baller R.A. Dickey in game one. Tim Hudson and Mike Pelfrey will match-up in game two, and the psudo-marquee matchup to the end the first half in game three will be Derek Lowe versus Johan Santana.

The Braves need to continue their streak of winning series. They have currently won their last four series, and they have won or tied all but one of their last 18 series dating back to early May when they began the run that put them in first place. Ending the first half on a positive note will be important, and this series against the Mets might be the most important series of the year up to this point.
