Jamal Crawford's Trade Demand Could Loom Large Over Hawks' Training Camp

Michael Cunningham of the Atlanta Journal Constitution writes that “all is quiet on the Hawks front,” which may be deceiving. Indeed, Cunningham says, the Hawks have yet to resolve Jamal Crawford’s extend-me-or-trade me request, which could create tension in training camp, slated to begin in two weeks.

Atlanta is under no obligation to grant Crawford’s request, as Cunningham points out, and could simply inform him they have no desire to do that. However, “that stance could threaten the team’s chemistry and cohesion before the season even gets started,” which would create an especially uncomfortable situation for new head coach Larry Drew. “Things are quiet for the Hawks right now,” Cunningham concludes, “but a storm could be brewing.”

We’ll update this StoryStream as more news on Crawford’s situation becomes available. If Cunningham is right, that could happen sooner rather than later.
