Falcons Open Sunday In Pittsburgh: Dennis Dixon Named Steelers' Starting QB

Stay connected for news and updates

Ben Roethlisberger's six-week suspension was recently slashed to four, but four is still way more than one, so Roethlisberger won't be available for Pittsburgh's opener against the Falcons. The Steelers have named third-year Dennis Dixon as their starter.

Dixon has started one game as a pro, nearly leading the Steelers to a road win over the Ravens last year. He went 12-for-26 with a 5.58 yards-per-pass average and tacked on 27 rushing yards.

The Falcons will be missing a suspended star of their own, with defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux serving his one-game suspension. New guys Peria Jerry and Corey Peters will be expected to fill most of the void.
