Stay connected for news and updates

Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson traded the top spot on the 2011 Zurich Classic leaderboard throughout Sunday, eventually facing each other in a playoff to decide the Avondale, Louisiana tournament. Each scored a birdie on the first extra hole, a par 5, before Watson was able to birdie the second hole as well as Simpson shot par.

With the victory, Watson collects his third PGA Tour win of his career and the second of this season. He's previously won the 2010 Travelers and 2011 Farmers Insurance. For his troubles, he'll add a $1,116,000 check to his 2011 winnings.

The former Georgia Bulldogs star shot 66, 68 and 70 before needing a 69 score to walk away with the title. A double bogey on hole No. 9 in Round 4 nearly signalled the end of his title hunt, but he was able to birdie hole No. 13 to force the playoff. He achieved three eagles in the tournament, with two on hole No. 11.
