Joe Hamilton Promoted To Georgia State Football Running Backs Coach

Former Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Heisman Trophy runner-up Joe Hamilton has been promoted to running backs coach on Bill Curry's staff according to a fellow Georgia State football staff member.

Hamilton was originally hired by Georgia Tech as a players personnel assistant in 2008 but was arrested for DUI on May 5, 2008 and immediately resigned.  Coach Bill Curry gave him a chance doing the grunt work and well chronicled long days to build his coaching reputation back. Curry alluded to potentially hiring Hamilton back in the interview with the AJC last October:

"I think either here or somewhere, there'll be an opening," Georgia State coach Bill Curry said. "He'll apply for it and he'll get it."

The former Yellow Jacket signal caller worked on Curry's staff as a special assistant in 2010 and assisted with recruiting, video and various practice related activities. 

As running backs coach, Hamilton will be allowed to recruit for the 2012 recruiting cycle in which the Panthers will lose as many as eight offensive players to graduation.  He should also assist offensive coordinator John Bond with the development of QB Kelton Hill, who is a dual threat QB and projected starter for 2011.
