Junior running back Carlton Thomas will miss the Georgia Bulldogs' season opener against the Boise State Broncos this Sept. 3 due to suspension, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Citing three anonymous sources, Thomas "violated team rules back in the spring," which thus means he must sit for 10 percent of the Bulldogs' games in the coming season. As Georgia is slated to play 12 games, it's likely Thomas will only miss one.

Thomas stands as the Bulldogs' most proven rusher, as he gained 272 yards and scored two touchdowns last season. Leading rushers Washaun Ealey (transfer to Jacksonville State) and Caleb King (academic ineligibility) did not return to Georgia's program. With Thomas suspended, the Bulldogs will rely on Richard Samuel, a converted linebacker; Isaiah Crowell, a true freshman; and Ken Malcome, a redshirt freshman, to carry the ball against Boise State's defense.
