Update: Lucas Cox confirmed.
Eric Thompson of JacketsOnline.com is reporting the Atlanta Falcons are welcoming Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets FB Lucas Cox. He played both A-back and B-back in Paul Johnson's offense, neither of which directly translates to Atlanta's offense. Jonathan Dwyer is the only one of Johnson's Tech running backs to have accumulated pro experience so far, but his lack of success may have had more to do with his work ethic. Nobody's really raised that concern about Cox.
He's also a veteran at impersonating Lou Holtz. His brother Mike Cox: also a Tech man, and a Kansas City Chiefs RB.
And according to multiple reports out of SMU land, the Falcons will bring on Mustangs LB Youri Yenga, who played on a side of the ball June Jones sometimes reportedly looked at, which is good enough for the June Jones fan in all of us. That's four linebackers reported so far in this UFA cluster.
Yenga was All-State as a Texas high schooler, which sounds like quite the achievement considering the Lone Star State's churning ocean of talent. He wasn't highly heralded in college, making Conference USA's honorable mention team twice. He was a tackling machine when healthy, twice recording more than 73 total stops in a season. He also produced 12 sacks in four years.
At SMU's pro day, he pushed 225 pounds 21 times, presented a 32-inch vertical and was clocked at 4.64 in the 40. There's actually a lot of film out there on Yenga, which is great. Here's the one that most involves him f-----' s--- up.
