Texas A&M Schedules Monday Meeting To Discuss Conference Realignment, According To Report

Texas A&M's board of regents has scheduled a Monday meeting to discuss a move to the SEC, according to Brent Zwerneman.

Also, the Texas House of Representatives' Higher Education Committee will meet Tuesday to "discuss matters pertaining to higher education, including collegiate athletics." As Andy Staples explains, that means they're going to talk about Texas A&M's efforts to join the SEC even though it's unlikely they could actually stop it at this point.

The A&M board of regents meeting on August 22 will be the big one, but this one is probably important too, I guess. I'm not a house committee expert. Oh, like you are. Maybe the important thing is that two branches of Texas' state government are now talking about the potential realignment.

Oklahoma Sooners officials are also meeting to talk about what to do should the Big 12 blow up. There may also be mention of whether OU should consider trying to secure an SEC invite of its own, but that still seems like a stretch.

One meeting that hasn't been scheduled: an "emergency meeting" of SEC presidents for the weekend. So rest assured no deal will officially be offered the Aggies before Monday at the absolute earliest, but I don't see any reason why the SEC needs to hurry this along. Waiting until the offseason might be the wisest move, matter of fact.
