2012 Sun Bowl: Georgia Tech S Isaiah Johnson probably out

The junior safety had started 26-consecutive games for the Yellow Jackets before suffering an injury in practice.

When the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets try to earn an upset victory against the USC Trojans in the 2012 Sun Bowl, they'll likely have to do so without the help of safety Isaiah Johnson. Head coach Paul Johnson told Ken Sugiura of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Tuesday that the junior safety is probably out for the bowl game.

Johnson was injured during a practice drill and will likely end a streak of 26-consecutive starts for the Yellow Jackets. His replacement is not yet known, although Sugiura lists Chris Milton, Jamal Golden and Desmond Smith as the potential fill-ins.

Luckily for Georgia Tech, the costly loss of the defensive back will likely be the only major injury for the team. Offensive tackle Ray Beno returned to practice on Tuesday after a broken finger suffered earlier in the season forced surgery. Outside linebacker Brandon Watts is also expected to return to practice on Wednesday.
