Georgia vs. Kentucky 2012: Bulldogs escape with win despite sloppy play

The Georgia Bulldogs escaped Kentucky's upset bid on Saturday with a 29-24 win, but even the victory might be a cause for concern.

T. Kyle King of Dawg Sports was perplexed by Georgia's performance:

A funny thing happened on the way to a blowout, though. The ‘Dawgs committed eight penalties, failed to card so much as a single takeaway, and surrendered 206 rushing yards to what previously had been a Kentucky offense that was much worse than merely pedestrian.

In addition to their mistakes, a Georgia rushing attack averaging 205.1 yards a game this season managed just 70 yards on 19 carries between Todd Gurley and Ken Malcome, forcing quarterback Aaron Murray to throw 38 times.

Murray came through for the Bulldogs, completing 30-of-38 passes for 427 yards and four touchdowns. That line includes back-to-back scores in the second half that turned a one-point Georgia deficit into a 12-point lead, 29-17, with 7:51 remaining in the fourth quarter.

With the win, Georgia improved to 6-1 on the season and will play No. 2 Florida this Saturday.
