Hawks Preseason 2012: Plenty of options at small forward

Paul Abell-US PRESSWIRE

With the NBA 2012-13 season quickly approaching, the Atlanta Hawks will need to decide on a starting small forward soon, but have plenty of options to consider

The NBA 2012-13 regular season is quickly approaching and the Atlanta Hawks remain uncommitted -- at least publicly -- on a starting small forward, but head coach Larry Drew is embracing the internal search and does not mind having plenty of options as well as versatility, via Chris Vivlamore of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

As Vivlamore writes, the Hawks have plenty of options in play for the small forward position, including DeShawn Stevenson, Kyle Korver, Damion James and Anthony Tolliver. The team could even play Josh Smith, who is usually a power forward, at the three, along with two other big men.

Larry Drew has yet to commit to the five-man combination he likes most, though, instead opting to praise the versatility and play of the different looks he has put out there so far this training camp.

"As I've said going into this preseason, my main focus was to really see what kind of combinations we can put out there and be effective," Drew said. "We've gone with DeShawn at 3. I like that. We've gone with Kyle at the 3. I like that. We've gone with Josh at some 3. I like that.

The team's void at small forward comes after Atlanta traded Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams in the offseason.
