New Hampshire Vs. Georgia State: Ronnie Bell says he learned lessons in loss

Jim Brown-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

The redshirt freshman, who threw four INT's in his first career start last week, vowed not to make the same mistakes again this week.

Ronnie Bell's debut as a starter didn't go quite as planned last Saturday, as the redshirt freshman quarterback threw four interceptions in a 37-3 loss to William & Mary.

Bell's problem, according to both him and the coaching staff, was his desire to make plays that weren't there, a common theme for young quarterbacks used to dominating on physical ability alone at the high school level.

In his weekly press conference, head coach Bill Curry talked about the adjustment process Bell is going through (courtesy of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution):

"This isn't Sandy Creek High School [Bell's alma mater]. He can't outrun people out here," Curry said. "You can not give up the ball."

The focus in practice this week has been on Bell making the simple plays and taking what the defense gives him, rather than forcing the action.

However, there's no substitute for game experience. Georgia State fans can only hope that giving Bell so many snaps early in his career will pay dividends down the road.
