The Georgia Bulldogs earned their first win of the season against the Jacksonville Dolphins, winning 68-62 at Stegeman Coliseum on Friday night.
Georgia was led by sophomore Nemanja Djurisic who put up a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, another sophomore, led the team with a game-high 17 points and also pulled down six rebounds. Vincent Williams also chipped in to help the Bulldogs earn a victory, dishing out six assists and swiping three steals along the way.
Head coach Mark Fox was certainly pleased even though the game was far from perfect, according to georgiadogs.com:
"It's a good opening win for us but we didn't play very well. But we were able to win the game and we had some very good moments at times. Our offense in the first half was good; our defense in the second half was awful. There is certainly a lot to learn from this and it is a good first step."
Georgia was red-hot early in the game, shooting at a 50 percent clip (13-of-26). However, the team would have to hold on in the second half, only hitting on 30 percent of its shots. Most shots from beyond the arc didn't find the mark either, with the Bulldogs connecting on just 4-of-19 from downtown.
The Dolphins were paced by Keith McDougald and Glenn Powell, who scored 13 and 11 points respectively.
With the win, Georgia moves to a perfect 9-0 record all-time against Jacksonville.
