In a high-scoring first quarter, the North Carolina Tar Heels and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets exchanged early scores en route to a 14-14 tie heading into the second frame.

The Tar Heels got on the board first a little less than two minutes into the contest with Giovani Bernard's 4-yard rushing touchdown. The running back's score was set up with a 40-yard kick return by Romar Morris and quarterback Bryn Renner's 47-yard strike to receiver Erik Highsmith.

Georgia Tech wasted little time in responding, evening the score on Tevin Washington's 25-yard touchdown run nearly two minutes later.

After North Carolina took the lead again with A.J. Blue's 1-yard rushing score, the Yellow Jackets came right back to knot it up on a 12-play, 70-yard drive, capped off by quarterback Vad Lee's 1-yard touchdown run.

At the end of the quarter, the Tar Heels moved the ball into Georgia Tech territory, looking for their third score of the contest.
