As Jimmie Johnson wins his second consecutive race, he extends the points lead over Brad Kesoloweski to 7 points.
After a close battle for the win between the top-two drivers in the Chase, Jimmie Johnson came out on to win the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Johnson earned maximum points from Texas and now leads Brad Kesoloweski by seven points as the Sprint Cup Series heads to Phoenix.
With the way the points are set now, the Sprint Cup title battle is now down to Kesoloweski and Johnson. Kasey Kahne and Clint Bowyer had an opportunity to gain on Johnson at Texas, but they failed to do so after both Bowyer and Kahne suffered tire problems late in the race.
Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr are now mathematically eliminated.
Below are the Chase for the Sprint Cup points as the Sprint Cup heads to Phoenix.
1.) Jimmie Johnson
2.) Brad Kesoloweski -7
3.) Clint Bowyer -37
4.) Kasey Kahne -58
5.) Matt Kenseth -72
6.) Jeff Gordon -74
7.) Denny Hamlin -75
8.) Tony Stewart -80
9.) Martin Truex Jr -81
10.) Greg Biffle -86
