Georgia Basketball: AD Greg McGarity has confidence in coach Mark Fox

Kevin C. Cox

Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity has 'all the confidence in the world' in Bulldogs head coach Mark Fox, despite Fox's 50-46 record in his first three years.

Georgia Bulldogs basketball head coach Mark Fox has the confidence of Georgia athletic director Greg McGarity, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Fox is in his fourth year at the head of the program, and is 50-46 as the season opens.

Despite the near .500 record, the Georgia AD likes what he sees from Fox:

"I have all the confidence in the world Mark's going to lead our program in the right way and in a way we can all be proud of. I know how hard he works recruiting. He is all over the map and so is his staff. He's doing it the right way with the right youngsters and not taking any shortcuts. I feel really good about what Mark's doing."

The Bulldogs have a 19-29 record in the SEC under Fox. The 2011 Dawgs were Fox's best team, finishing 21-12 and making the NCAA tournament, where they lost in the first round. That was Fox's fourth appearance in the tournament, but he has never made it past the second round.

One thing McGarity likes from Fox is his focus on local players. Kenny Gaines, Charles Mann and Brandon Morris are three freshman, all of them from Georgia and ranked as three-star prospects. Things look to continue that way, as the 2013 recruiting class already has a three-star commit in J.J. Frazier, a guard from Ludowici, Ga.
