John Calipari finally captures that elusive first national championship as his Kentucky Wildcats held off Kansas 67-59. Kentucky led comfortably for most of the night before a late run by the Jayhawks made things interesting. Kansas used an 8-0 run to cut a 15 point lead to just seven with 3:22 remaining.
Marquis Teague would stop that run with a three pointer but Kansas would answer back and eventually get as close as five points, 62-57 with 1:11 remaining. The Jayhawks wouldn't get any closer however thanks to some good free throw shooting from Teague and Doron Lamb in the game's final moments.
Lamb scored a game-high 22 points hitting 7-12 shots and three three-pointers. Marquis Teague added 14 points while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist finished with 11.
Anthony Davis didn't have a great night offensively but made up for it in other areas finishing with six points, 16 rebounds, five assists, six blocks and three steals. Davis length made it real tough on the Kansas frontcourt combination of Thomas Robinson and Jeff Withey throughout the game.
Tyshawn Taylor led the Jayhawks with 19 points while Robinson added 18 and 17 rebounds. Robinson however was just 6-17 from the floor. Elijah Johnson added 13 points while Withey finished with five points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

Kentucky has a 41-27 lead over Kansas at halftime of the 2012 NCAA Tournament Championship Game with three freshman playing key roles.
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist hit 4-5 shot attempts in the first half for 11 points and also has five rebounds while also drawing the defensive assignment against Kansas point guard Tyshawn Taylor. Point guard Marquis Teague hit 4-8 shots for nine points and also has two assists.
Freshman big man Anthony Davis was held without a basket in the first half but was still a huge factor finishing with nine rebounds, four assists and three blocks. Davis completely shut down the lane against the Jayhawks with his length and did a nice job at the offensive end drawing attention and then passing to open teammates. Davis was key to the Wildcats' 22-14 rebounding advantage at the half.

Its so far so good for the Kentucky Wildcats who are halfway to another national championship as they take a 41-27 lead over the Kansas Jayhawks at halftime. The Wildcats' tenacious defense led to easy opportunities on the offensive end and their length and athleticism made things tough for the Jayhawks.
Kentucky held Kansas to just 33 percent shooting in the first half, blocked five shots and recorded two steals. Doron Lamb leads all scorers with 12 points and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has 11.
Thomas Robinson had a tough time around the basket thanks to Kentucky's length but still managed eight points and six rebounds on just 3-11 shooting. Tyshawn Taylor also finished the first half with eight points and has a couple of assists.

The college basketball season wraps up on Monday night as Kentucky and Kansas square off in New Orleans for the national title.
about 1 year ago Update 0 comments
If you watched then Kentucky Wildcats as they made their way through the South regional to advance to the 2012 Final Four, then you're probably not surprised. The Kentucky Wildcats survived a comeback attempt from the Louisville Cardinals, winning 69-61 and advancing to the national title game.
Once again, Kentucky was led by Anthony Davis, who had a monster game for John Calipari's Wildcats. Davis finished with 18 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks -- all team highs for Kentucky.
The Wildcats found themselves up by as many a 13 points in the second half, but the Cardinals came all the way back to tie the game at 49 with just over nine minutes to play in the second half. From there, it was all Wildcats though, as Kentucky went on a 20-12 run to end the game and inch closer to a national title.
Kentucky will take on the Kansas Jayhawks on Monday night in the title game. Tip off is scheduled for 9:23 p.m. ET.

The Kentucky Wildcats and the Louisville Cardinals will take their talents to New Orleans in game one of the Final Four showdown in the Superdome.
about 1 year ago Update 0 comments
It's certainly no surprise that the top-seeded Kentucky Wildcats have reached the Final Four. John Calipari's Wildcats have only lost two games all season -- and they've lost them by a combined eight points.
When the Wildcats tip-off against the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday, fans will be sure to keep an eye out on Anthony Davis, who is Kentucky's top player in nearly every category. Davis is averaging 14.3 points per game on the season. Davis is also Kentucky's top rebounder and shot blocker as well, averaging 10.1 rebounds per game and 4.6 blocks per game.
Without a doubt, Davis is Kentucky's top player -- though he's certainly not the only good player on Kentucky.
Perhaps the beauty of this Kentucky team is the depth, as Marquis Teague, Darius Miller, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb are all averaging at least ten points per game. Jones and Kidd-Gilchrist are both averaging over seven rebounds a game as well.

Two of the NCAA's biggest rivals will square off on Saturday in the Final Four, as the fourth-seeded Louisville Cardinals take on the overall top seed Kentucky Wildcats, in what's sure to be a game chalk full of intensity.
It's not particularly surprising that Kentucky managed to get to the Final Four, given that they're the top seed in the tournament. What is somewhat surprising is that the fourth-seeded Cardinals were able to get there. A big reason for Louisville's success has been the play of point guard Peyton Siva, who recently turned his season around.
SB Nation's Mike Rutherford has an excellent analysis of what's happened since Kentucky beat Louisville, and he chalks up Louisville's recent success to better play from Siva.
he biggest catalyst behind Louisville's sudden upswing has been Siva. Rick Pitino's floor general had been having an extremely disappointing junior season before a performance inside Madison Square Garden that had him flying home with a Big East Tournament MVP trophy. He's shooting the ball slightly better -- although he's still not going to set the world on fire from beyond 15-feet -- but the biggest key for Siva has been that he's playing far more under control. Turnovers are down, assists are up, and the wild offensive fouls that had consistently led him into foul trouble have been curtailed.
We'll see on Saturday if Siva continues to play in control. If he does, the Cardinals will have a very good chance of upsetting the Wildcats. If not, it's likely curtains for Louisville.

The Kentucky Wildcats haven't played single-digit deficit game since falling 71-64 to the Vanderbilt Commodores in the Southeastern Conference tournament.
Since then, the No.1-ranked team in the country has been on a terror, showing that it deserves to be considered elite and certainly finalist as well. After all, that loss to Vanderbilt was only Kentucky's second loss of the season, in which the first came on a ridiculous shooting night in December by the Indiana Hoosiers who still need a buzzer-beater to win the game.
No other teams have had such luck with the Wildcats this season and definitely not any of these tournament teams. Western Kentucky tried to give the Wildcats a run in the first round on March 15, but to no avail. Terrence Jones and Doron Lamb combined for 38 points in that game, with both players scoring more than their season average. Anthony Davis was there for Kentucky too, putting up 16 points and nine rebounds.
Iowa State Cyclones weren't bad to watch this season, but they ran into the brick wall that is the Kentucky Wildcats, just like the other squads, but this in the second round. Kentucky romped Iowa State, 87-71.
The rematch victory against the Hoosiers where Kentucky went off and scored 102 points is still fresh in the memory bank. So is that uninspiring effort that the Baylor Bears put up against the Wildcats in the Elite Eight on Sunday.
Point is, Kentucky went through the specific protocol of becoming a contender in the Final Four, however, it seems as if the Wildcats have been here all season.

The 2012 NCAA Tournament has whittled the field down to the Final Four and there are now only three games left. The only No. 1 seed to make it to the Final Four is Kentucky, who was the overall top seed in the tournament. They will be facing their in-state rival Louisville, who is led by former coach Rick Pitino who took Kentucky to three Final Fours and one national title. So, this next week leading up to the game will be very interesting in the state of Kentucky.
The other matchup features Kansas and Ohio State. Both are number two seeds and both knocked off a No. 1 seed in their respective regional finals, defeating North Carolina and Syracuse.
Here's the Final Four television schedule for the national semifinal games that will take place at the Superdome in New Orleans on Saturday, March 31.

The Kentucky Wildcats are playing like the favorites they are in this 2012 NCAA Tournament and did so on Sunday night be easily defeating the No. 3 seeded Baylor Bears 82-70. Kentucky will be taking on in-state rival Louisville Cardinal in the national semifinal.
Nick Fasulo of SB Nation's Searching for Billy Edelin blog talks about Kentucky's win over Baylor. Even though Baylor lost by 12 points they did give Kentucky some trouble in the first four minutes, but the reason Kentucky is so good is because they made the adjustments after the first media timeout.
Fasulo talked about how he was impressed with freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist not only in this game but the way he has improved over the course of the season.

Outside of the first few minutes in the first half the Kentucky Wildcats were never presented a challenge against the Baylor Bears. Kentucky went on a 16-0 run in the middle of the first half to go up 21-10 and then led 42-22 at the half, and ultimately winning 82-70.
In the second half Baylor chipped away at the Kentucky, but the closest they would get would be 10 points with under one minute left in the game. Baylor did get 22 points and eight rebounds from Quincy Acy, but it was not enough to keep them in this game.
The Kentucky offense was making their shots this afternoon by connecting on 54 percent of their shots, and they were aggressive by making to the free throw line 44 times while making 30 of them. Kentucky had four players in double figures and of course were led by Anthony Davis who scored18 points, 11 rebounds and six block shots.
Oh, and Davis also had this amazing put back:
Kentucky now moves on to face their in-state rival Louisville Cardinal in the Final Four and for a chance to play for a national title.

The Kentucky Wildcats received a big scare when he landed awkwardly after colliding with Baylor's Perry Jones III on a drive in the second half against the Bears. Davis collapsed on the ground holding his knee but was eventually helped up and limped to the bench.
While on the bench, Kentucky trainers looked at his knee and eventually offered that the likely No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft was ok.
"he's ok, we're just going to do some further evaluation"
Davis checked back into the game soon after with a slight limp but asked out of the game after a couple of trips up and down the court. Obviously any significant injury to Davis would have a big effect on the Wildcats' chances in the remainder of the tournament.

The Kentucky Wildcats wasted little time in jumping out to a big 42-22 lead over Baylor at halftime. Kentucky's defense has been solid holding Baylor to 32 percent shooting while recording six steals and five blocks.
Those steals and blocks helped ignite the Wildcats' fast break leading to a lot of easy chances for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Anthony Davis. Kidd-Gilchrist leads Kentucky with 17 points in the first half on 6-7 shooting. Anthony Davis added 14 points and six rebounds. Terrance Jones scored only one point but has five rebounds, six assists, two steals and three blocks at the break.
Quincy Acy has been the lone bright spot for the Bears with 10 points. Pierre Jackson has six points and three assists but no other Baylor player has more than three. Perry Jones III has been non-existent with two points and three turnovers while hitting only one of five attempts from the field.

The No. 1 seed Kentucky and No. 3 seed Baylor are battling for a spot in the Final Four
about 1 year ago Update 0 comments
SB Nation's own Dan Rubenstein breaks down the South Region Elite Eight matchup between No. 1 seeded Kentucky Wildcats and the No. 3 seeded Baylor Bears, with the prediction that Kentucky will move on.
The key player for Kentucky is Anthony Davis who has a good chance of being named the national player of the year and will be a tough player for Baylor to guard against.
The back court is where Kentucky has a huge advantage, but Baylor has the athletes to hang around with Kentucky with Quincy Acy and Perry Jones III and a front court to be able to give Kentucky trouble on Sunday.
Kentucky has too much for Baylor to overcome which is why they are predicted to move onto the Final Four.

The Kentucky Wildcats are just one win away from heading to the Final Four when they take on No. 2 seed Baylor Bears on Sunday afternoon. Kentucky takes on a Baylor team that has been on a roll and is playing some of their best basketball going back to their run in the Big 12 tournament.
Kentucky also has been playing well and has not been challenged during the NCAA Tournament with the exception of Friday night's game against the Indiana Hoosiers where the game was relatively close in the 102-90 win. However, one key edge that Kentucky has over Baylor is their bench play.
ESPN's Dick Vitale predicts Kentucky will move on and says that the difference in the game will be Kentucky's depth:
Scott Drew's team has the athletes to give Kentucky a battle, but one key could be Darius Miller off the bench. Look for big things from Doron Lamb and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, who starred against Indiana.

Coming off the heels of a 102-90 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers, Kentucky finds themselves now just one game away from punching a ticket to New Orleans and the Final Four.
Baylor will likely be another team that will try to run the floor with the Wildcats, something few have been able to do as the team has a 35-2 record on the season.
Standing just 6'7", look for Kentucky to pound the ball inside against Baylor's Quincy Acy. Though he has been one of the star's of the tournament thus far, Acy is undersized as he tries to defend Anthony Davis.
Also look for the Wildcats to try and get Darius Miller off to a hot start offensively, as Baylor doesn't have nearly the size to match-up with Kentucky in the backcourt.
Defensively, Kentucky will have to not become so enamored with trying to stop Perry Jones III and Quincy Acy inside that they forget about Pierre Jackson and Brady Heslip. Heslip in particular can be a sharpshooter from outside.

Two of the four tickets to the Final Four will be punched on Saturday, and, if you're anything like me, you needed a new bracket after the first day of the tournament. Luckily for us, the good folks over at SB Nation have us covered, as they have an up-to-date, clean, printable bracket ready to go as the Elite Eight is set to begin on Saturday afternoon.
While the tournament now lacks a true Cinderella, your bracket might have been busted by one along the way. The West regional boasts two fairly high seeds as well, as the No. 4 Louisville Cardinals will be taking on the No. 7 Florida Gators on Saturday afternoon.
The South regional final, which will be held in Atlanta, pits No. 1 seed Kentucky vs. third-seeded Baylor -- which isn't much of a bracket buster. Still, those who went upset heavy might be wishing they didn't, and needing a new bracket consequently.

It was the best effort that the Indiana Hoosiers, probably, could muster up, but it just wasn't enough against the Kentucky Wildcats on Friday. Behind a game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds from freshman forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, the top-seeded Wildcats downed the Hoosiers, 102-90, in a NCAA Tournament, Sweet 16 contest in Atlanta, Ga. UK moves on to the Elite 8, where it will face the No. 3 Baylor Bears in the South Regional final on Sunday.
Indiana used a gutsy up-tempo offensive attack against the more athletic Wildcats, and for the most part it worked. In the end, however, the star power of Gilchrist, sophomore guard Doron Lamb (21 points), senior guard Darius Miller (19), freshman guard Marquis Teague (14) and sophomore forward Terrence Jones (12) was too much.
All of those efforts, masked the "off-night" of freshman center Anthony Davis, who finished with seven points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
The Hoosiers were paced by junior forward Christian Watford, who scored a game-high 27 points, while freshman forward Cody Zellar added 18.
Overall, Indiana shot 53-percent from the field, but Kentucky answered by making 35 of its 37 free throws (95-percent).

One wouldn't think that a in-your-face, face-paced tempo would be the way to attack No. 1-seeded Kentucky Wildcats, but that's just what the No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers are doing, as they've trail 50-47 at halftime in a NCAA Tournament, Sweet 16 contest in Atlanta, Ga.
Junior forward Christian Watford as tallied a team-high 17 points and has sparked a Indiana offense that's shooting 60-percent from the field. Meanwhile, the Wildcats haven't been able to match that clip shooting, but has survived because of Terrence Jones' 12 points and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist's 11.
The game began at a frantic pace, as Kentucky jumped out to a 16-11 lead less than five minutes in. The Wildcats led by nine, 31-22, with 9:58 to play, but Indiana turned up the defense and offense to spark tie the game at 37 with 5:04 to play.
The Hoosiers did take a four point lead, however, Kentucky ended the half on a 11-4 run.

Baylor's Brady Heslip then made a pair of free throws to go up five points with 17 seconds.
Baylor was led by Quincy Adams who scored 20 points and put up a barrage of monster dunks in the win.
Overall Baylor had three other players in double figures and shot 50 percent from the field while holding Xavier to 43 percent. Hollaway led Xavier in scoring with 22 points.

The No. 3 seed Baylor Bears are halfway to reaching the Elite Eight as they lead the No. 10 seed Xavier Musketeers 36-29 at the half. Baylor started the game hot by going on a 22-4 run to begin the game. So far, Baylor's offense is shooting 53 percent from the field including making 3-of-9 from three-point range.
The scoring for Baylor has been spread out among the group with four players with at least six points with Quincy Ash and Pierre Jackson leading Baylor with eight points apiece.
Xavier made a run to get back in this game behind Kenny Frease who has 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting. As a team Xavier is shooting 40 percent and has missed all of their three-point attempts.

Not that you should be surprised, but the guys over at the SB Nation studios are picking the Kentucky Wildcats to beat the Indiana Hoosiers and the Baylor Bears to take out Xavier as well. The predictions joked to be "bold and wrong" at the beginning of the segment, when they are in fact safe and more than likely correct.
Dan Rubenstein is picking Kentucky to be just a bit too much for the Hoosiers:
"Indiana caught fire, hot like a pistol the last time they played they hit seven straight 3s. Anthony Davis was in foul trouble for Kentucky and didn't really see the PT (playing time) that he's seen since and before. And he's probable Player of the Year right now, nationally. So, I think Kentucky is too good, too athletic and they swarm too much on defense."
Matt Ufford is actually picking the Tu Holloway led Xavier to beat Baylor, but Rubenstein thinks the Bears are too athletic for Xavier to handle.

March Madness resumes on Thursday, with four of the eight Sweet 16 games set to tip off. If you're anything like me, your bracket has plenty of red slash lines, and maybe a few curse words too. But that's ok, since the good folks at SB Nation have you covered with an updated, printable 2012 NCAA Tournament bracket.

The Sweet 16 is set for the South Region with three of the top four seeds advancing. Top seeded Kentucky advanced by easily defeating Western Kentucky and Iowa State. Kentucky takes on Indiana who happens to be only one of two teams to have defeated Kentucky this year. Indiana made it this far by defeating New Mexico State, and then holding off No. 12 seeded VCU.
The other two teams to make it this far are Baylor and Xavier. Baylor was challenged by both South Dakota State and Colorado, but they held off both to move on. Xavier first upset Notre Dame and then held off No. 15 seed Lehigh.
Here is Friday's schedule for the South regional semifinal:

No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats vs. No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers, 9:45 p.m. ET, CBS

The Lehigh Mountain Hawks nearly became the first-ever No. 15 seed to advance to the Sweet 16 as they fell in a hard fought game against the No. 10 Xavier Musketeers 70-58. The win for Xavier put them in the Sweet 16 for the fourth time in five years.
The game saw both schools have sizable leads throughout the game, but Xavier had one last run in them to earn the victory. The game was tied at 52 apiece at the 7:20 mark, but Lehigh would only score six more points the rest of the way while Xavier pulled away. Lehigh did cut it to four points with under a minute left, but Xavier hit their free throws the rest of the way to win by 12 points.
Lehigh was led in scoring by Mackey McKnight who scored 20 points, and Xavier was led by Kenny Frease who had 25 tonight. Xavier now advances to the Sweet 16 in Atlanta and will take on No. 3 seeded Baylor Bears,

Three tickets have already been punched to Atlanta for the Sweet 16, where the South regional final will be held this year. Three of the top four seeds will be headed there as well, as the top-seeded Kentucky Wildcats, third-seeded Baylor Bears and fourth-seeded Indiana Hoosiers are all set for Sweet 16 action.
Needless to say, the fanbases for those three schools are quite excited. Glenn Logan over at A Sea of Blue offered some of his thoughts on Kentucky's win over Iowa State.
For Kentucky, this was the coming-out of Marquis Teague. I normally award the game ball after the jump, but in this particular game there was simply no contest. Darius Miller was also outstanding, as was Doron Lamb in spite of his foul problems, but Marquis Teague was ... he was just everything we could ever want tonight in a basketball player.
With this win, Kentucky gets to the Sweet Sixteen for the third straight year. I remember a time not that long ago when we would have taken that with no questions. Now, it's just another hurdle in the way of the true, and only goal of this basketball team -- the NCAA Tournament title.
Such expectations are certainly justified with the year Kentucky has had to date.
Meanwhile, the folks over at The Crimson Quarry seem to have a sense of relief following Indiana's thrilling 63-61 win over VCU.
I ndiana played the absolute worst possible game it could get away with and still win. Hulls, Oladipo and Zeller all struggled mightily to take care of the ball. But in the end a man's game from Christian Watford and Will Sheehey being in the right place at the right time sealed if for Indiana. I'm emotionally broken now, but damn it feels good to survive that. We've already won a ton off of house money, hopefully we go all in and get another win against Kentucky next weekend.
Lastly, Tim Watkins posted some of his thoughts about Baylor's win over Colorado over at Our Daily Bears.
When the Bears fell behind 54-51 with 11:12 left in the game, a change on the other end of the court helped the Bears on both sides. Drew went to his much-maligned zone defense, and the route was one. Baylor would go on to outscore the Buffaloes 29-9 to finish the game. Everything started to fall for the Bears. It was beautiful.
There's room for Cinderella in Atlanta, though, as either Xavier or Lehigh will advance on Sunday to take on Baylor.

The Baylor Bears advance to the Sweet 16 in Atlanta as they pulled away in the second half against the Colorado Buffaloes to win 80-63. At the half was a two-point game and Colorado even led 57-54 at the 10 minute mark in the second half, but they could not build upon that lead. Baylor would immediately go on a 21-3 run to go up by 15 to seal the win.
Baylor was led by Brady Heslip who had a career-high 27 points all on three-point shots and he was a reason why Baylor won. Pierre Jackson was the only other Baylor player who scored in double digits and he had 15 points. Colorado had four players who scored in double digits and were led by Askia Booker who had 15 points.
Baylor now moves on to face the winner between No. 15 Lehigh Mountain Hawks and No. 10 Xavier Musketeers in Atlanta.

For about 25 minutes of this game the Kentucky Wildcats were being challenge by the Iowa St. Cyclones. The game was tied at 42 points apiece at the 16:28 mark in the second half, but from that point on Kentucky outscored Iowa State 45 to 29 to win in a blowout 87-71.
Kentucky was just too much for Iowa State even by playing only seven players, but it was really six as Kyle Wiltjer played only three minutes. The three-point shot is how Kentucky was able to blow open this game as they made 10-of-20, and made six-of-seven in the second half. Overall from the field Kentucky shot 55 percent and had four players scoring in double figures with Marquis Teague leading the way with 24 points.
Kentucky now advances to the Sweet 16 in Atlanta where they will face the Indiana Hoosiers.

The VCU Rams nearly made it to their second straight Sweet 16 appearance, but they fell short as the Indiana Hoosiers came back from a nine-point second half deficit to win 63-61. The game came down to the final moments with Indiana trailing by five with 90 seconds left in the game, but they were able to hold VCU scoreless for the rest of the game which included a pair of free throws missed by Bradford Burgess which kept Indiana in this game.
Indiana took advantage of the Burgess' missed free throw and drove down the court with Victor Oladipo making a layup plus the following free throw after being fouled to tie the game at 61. Oladipo almost hit the game winner after grabbing a missed three-pointer by VCU, but his shot was blocked. However, the ball fell right into the hands of Will Sheehey who was wide open and hit the game winner putting Indiana up 63-61.
The basket by Sheehey was his first made basket in the second half and first since the 7:57 mark in the first half. VCU had a good look on their final shot but Rob Brandenberg's three-pointer did not fall.
This is the first Sweet 16 appearance by Indiana since 2002 and they will take on the winner between Iowa State and Kentucky in Atlanta.

The second day of the NCAA Tournament has seen multiple double-digit seeds pull off the upset, and the latest came from the No. 15 seeded Lehigh Mountain Hawks who upset the No. 2 seeded Duke Blue Devils, 75-70. Lehigh became the second 15 seed to win today as the Norfolk St. Spartans upset the Missouri Tigers earlier on Friday.
Lehigh played Duke tough the entire game and the two went toe-to-toe the whole way. Duke made a mini-run at the beginning of the second half to go up by five, but Lehigh did not panic and came back to go on an 8-0 run to take a 47-42 lead.
Lehigh had another run in them where they outscored Duke 9-2 under three minutes left and countered any comeback attempt Duke had in them. Lehigh hit a pair of wide open dunks under one minute and hit their free throws to seal the win and stun Duke.
Lehigh was led by CJ McCollum who scored a game-high 30 points and Gabe Knutson chipped in with 17. The game could have been an ever bigger win had Lehigh shot better than 25-of-37 from the free throw line.
Lehigh advances to the next round where they will face the winner between Notre Dame and Xavier on Sunday.

Duke taking on Lehigh may not be the most scintillating game of the Second Round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament, but the Blue Devils' national profile probably helped get them the plummest possible spot on Friday's TV schedule.
Duke meets the Mountain Hawks at 7:15 p.m. in Greensboro in a South Regional matchup, and none other than CBS' top team of Jim Nantz and Clark Kellogg will be on the call. This will make virtually no one mad, considering how universally beloved Duke is.

VCU is no stranger to success in the NCAA Tournament. They picked up right where they left off last season pulling an upset over the No. 5 seed Wichita State 62-59. Darius Theus' runner in the lane with just 18 seconds remaining put the Rams up by three. Garrett Stutz missed a desperation attempt at the buzzer sealing the victory for VCU.

The Kentucky Wildcats lead the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at halftime in the second round of the 2012 NCAA tournament by a score of 45-26 in the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The No. 1 seeded Wildcats came into the game with a 32-2 record and were undefeated in the SEC, while the No. 16 seeded Hilltoppers went 16-18 and were 7-9 in the Sun Belt. The winner of this game takes on the winner of the No. 9 seeded UConn Huskies and the No. 8 seeded Iowa State Cyclones.
The Wildcats were led by Terrence Jones, who scored 15 points in the first half. Doron Lamb added 14 and Marquis Teague chipped in seven. The Hilltoppers were led by T.J. Price, who put in a 16-point performance in the first half. Price didn't have much support from his teammates, though, as the next leading scorer was Derrick Gordon, who only chipped in four points.
It looks as if this top-seed versus bottom-seed game won't be nearly as exciting as the Syracuse-UNC Asheville one earlier today in which Syracuse just escaped a second-round elimination.

The No. 1 seeded Kentucky Wildcats take on the No. 16 seed Western Kentucky Hilltoppers tonight at 6:50 p.m. in the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky. The Wildcats went 32-2 through the regular season and were 16-0 in the SEC, while the Hilltoppers went 16-18 and were 7-9 in the Sun Belt. The Hilltoppers barely beat the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils by a score of 59-58 to face Kentucky in the second round.
The Wildcats are led by Anthony Davis, who is averaging 14.3 points per game, and Doron Lamb, who averages 13.2. The Hilltoppers are led by Derrick Gordon, who averages 11.8 points per game, and George Fant, who averages 10.3. Kentucky averages 77.1 points per game, which ranks them 20th in the NCAA, while Western Kentucky averages 65.1, which ranks them at 238th.
The Hilltoppers don't have much of a shot at bringing down the top-ranked Wildcats, unless there is an epic Kentucky colapse. However, Gordon is hoping Western Kentucky can throw the first punch and make history on Thursday night.
"We're expecting to throw the first punch out there and do something tomorrow that a lot of people haven't seen before," said Hilltoppers guard Derrick Gordon, a teammate of Kentucky's Michael Kidd-Gilchrist in high school at St. Patrick's in New Jersey. "Nobody's ever seen a 16 seed take down a No. 1 seed, so we're just trying to make history."

The 2012 NCAA Tournament begins Thursday, and you're stuck at work. This is a problem. But the NCAA and CBS are here to help, as you can watch every March Madness game this year without visiting a bootleg Ukrainian online streaming site that has you clicking away ammo ads every five minutes.
Every game aired by CBS Sports, which is a lot of games, will be streamed live via their site. For all other games, a $3.99 fee gets you live coverage access at the NCAA's March Madness site, which you can also view on your phone or iPad or what have you. Remember, the NCAA doesn't make any money, and this is all for the benefit of the student-athlete. ;)
While you're at it, head here to print out a March Madness bracket that's been updated to account for all four play-in games, here for NCAA Tournament picks, schedules, and more, and have a nice day.

We know the Kentucky Wildcats are favored to reach the Final Four, finally giving John Calipari his first-ever trip to the illustrious round*. As for the other side of the South Region, who do you like? The Duke Blue Devils or Baylor Bears? Baylor could be a brutal matchup for Duke, and a lot of bracket people are seeing it the same way.
* ;)
Our own bracket expert, Chris Dobbertean, has already got it all figured out and will probably see his operation fall apart when New Mexico State wins or something. From his breakdown of the entire NCAA Tournament bracket (let's also note super smart guy Bill Connelly picks Kentucky over Baylor as well, while Andrew Sharp, our most gambling-minded individual, takes UNC over UK):
Round of 64
1 Kentucky over 16 Mississippi Valley State
8 Iowa State over 9 Connecticut
5 Wichita State over 12 VCU
4 Indiana over 13 New Mexico State
6 UNLV over 11 Colorado
3 Baylor over 14 South Dakota State
10 Xavier over 7 Notre Dame
2 Duke over 15 LehighGames That Could Go Either Way (Other Than The 8 vs. 9): VCU-Wichita State, though I think the Shockers are a bit more complete, particularly inside; UNLV-Colorado, as the Buffaloes may be peaking at the right time; and Xavier-Notre Dame, simply because I waited for days on end to pick against the both of them and now cannot.
Round of 32
1 Kentucky over 8 Iowa State
5 Wichita State over 4 Indiana
3 Baylor over 6 UNLV
2 Duke over 10 XavierUpset Explanation: While I don't think the Hoosiers will miss Verdell Jones III much against New Mexico State, his absence will create problems against a talented Wichita State squad.
Sweet Sixteen
1 Kentucky over 5 Wichita State
3 Baylor over 2 DukeA Word Of Caution: Given Baylor's inconsistency, they are a worthy pick to go out before they get the opportunity to meet a Duke team they might just beat this time around.
Elite Eight
1 Kentucky over 3 BaylorFinal Analysis: This region sets up quite well for Kentucky, though the Bears could give them a serious game here, if they get their collective heads straight, like they did against Kansas in the Big 12 semifinal. That's a big "if," however.

There was a little chatter on Twitter about whether or not Gus Johnson is calling any games in the round of 64. So for those who don't know, Johnson isn't calling any of the games this year.
In fact, Verne Lundquist and Bill Raftery will be on call for the all of Thursday's games in the South region, starting with the Murray State Racers and Colorado State Rams.
Here is a look at Lundquist and Raftery's schedule for Thursday:
12:15 p.m. #6 Murray State vs. #11 Colorado State (CBS)
2:45 p.m. #3 Marquette vs. #14 BYU (CBS)
6:50 p.m. #1 Kentucky vs. #16 Western Kentucky (TBS)

The South region of the NCAA Tournament bracket is easily the most compelling one, with the nation's No. 1 team, the Kentucky Wildcats headlining the show, so here is a look at Thursday's tournament schedule. (Click here for the complete Thursday March Madness TV schedule.)
The premiere matchup, though, is battle between the Cinderella teams - the Virginia Commonwealth Rams and Wichita State Shockers. VCU is the Cinderella story from last season after making it to the Final Four when there was question as to whether or not they even belonged in the tournament to begin with.
Those questions don't surround Wichita State, but it would still be somewhat of a "shocker" if they pull off the improbable this season by first going through the squad that did it last season.
Here is a look at today's schedule in the South region:
No. 1 Kentucky vs. No. 16 Western Kentucky (TBS) - Thursday, March 15, 6:50 p.m.
No. 5 Wichita State vs. No. 12 VCU (CBS) - Thursday, March 15, 7:15 p.m.
No. 3 Baylor vs. No. 14 South Dakota State (truTV) - Thursday, March 15, 7:27 p.m.
No. 8 Iowa State vs. No. 9 UConn (TBS) - Thursday, March 15, after conclusion of Kentucky vs. WKU
No. 4 Indiana vs. No. 13 New Mexico State (CBS) - Thursday, March 15, after conclusion of Wichita State vs. VCU
No. 6 UNLV vs. No. 11 Colorado (truTV) - Thursday, March 15, after Baylor vs. SDSU

UK, the overall No. 1 seed, gets a great geographic draw, starting off in Louisville before heading to Atlanta, presuming they don't slip up. They have experience playing tourney games in Georgia, having won the SEC title there last year, and always have strong crowd support at the Dome.

President Barack Obama has filled out his NCAA Tournament bracket, as he does every year with ESPN's Andy Katz, and like most people, has the Kentucky Wildcats coming out of the South region to head to the Final Four.
A lot of the commander-in-chief's bracket picks are chalk, but Obama does have No. 3-seed Baylor taking out No. 2-seed Duke in the Elite Eight. The other upset the president is picking is the No. 12-seed Virginia Commonwealth Rams beating No. 5-seed Wichita State Shockers. VCU was the Cinderella team to make it to the Final Four last season, and Wichita State is a popular pick to do something similar in 2012. Obama also has the No. 10-seed Xavier Muskateers defeating the No. 7-seed Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
President Obama's Final Four picks are as follows:
No.1 Kentucky Wildcats vs. No. 2 Missouri Tigers
No.1 North Carolina Tar Heels vs. No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes

Over at the SB Nation NCAA basketball hub page, our staff has videos breaking down each region of the bracket for the NCAA Tournament. We're trying to help you out with your office pool so be sure to pay attention.
In the South region, the Kentucky Wildcats is the overwhelming favorite, Nick Fasulo points out in the video, but Wichita State can still be a tricky opponent and a surprise in the bracket.
"First thing you wanna do, put Kentucky in the Final Four and figure out everything else," Fasulo said. He also acknowledged basketball historians thirst for a Duke vs. Kentucky 20-year anniversary rematch of the Christian Laettner shot.
But Fasulo says UNLV could get past the Baylor Bears and Duke Blue Devils. Check out the video right here.

The Kentucky Wildcats didn't win the SEC, but as has become recent tradition, they're being given the inside shot at the national title anyway. U mad, fans of every sport? UK was named the No. 1 overall seed and will get home region advantage in the South, where they'll start in Louisville and march toward Atlanta (easy now!).
Also joining them, among SEC teams: the Florida Gators are a 7 seed in the West (vs. the Virginia Cavaliers), the SEC champion Vanderbilt Commodores are a 5 seed in the East (vs. the Harvard Crimson ... pretty nerdy game!), and the Alabama Crimson Tide are a 9 seed in the Midwest (vs. Creighton).
That makes for four SEC teams, with the Mississippi Rebels just missing the cut.
Among pending SEC representatives, the Missouri Tigers were named a 2 seed in the West. Call it four and a half?

The North Carolina Tar Heels were named a 1 seed in the 2012 NCAA Tournament, getting top honors in the Midwest Region. They did this despite losing their conference title game to the Florida St. Seminoles. UNC will get either Lamar or Vermont.
FSU showed up at a 3 seed in the East vs. the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. The Duke Blue Devils are a 2 seed in the South (vs. Lehigh), while the Virginia Cavaliers are a 10 seed in the West, where they'll get the Florida Gators. The N.C. State Wolfpack grabbed an 11 seed against SDSU in the Midwest.
That's five teams from the ACC, but the future ACC fared pretty well too.
If conference realignment were settled as of today, the ACC would've had two top seeds, as the Syracuse Orange reign over the East Region. The Big East regular season champs will open up in Pittsburgh -- the Panthers didn't make the cut.

The Georgia Dome in Atlanta will play host to the 2012 NCAA Tournament's South Region from March 22 through March 25. The winner of that Region will advance to the Final Four. As it stands, it looks to be Catlanta in a couple weeks, as the Kentucky Wildcats have earned the No. 1 seed overall and the top seed in the South. The other three Regional top seeds: the Michigan St. Spartans in the West, North Carolina Tar Heels in the Midwest, and Syracuse Orange in the East.
