Furman Vs. Georgia Baseball: Paladins Upset Bulldogs 5-4 At Foley Field

Georgia couldn't overcome one bad inning on Tuesday night as the Furman Paladins held on for a 5-4 win over the Bulldogs at Foley Field.

The Bulldogs were playing their fifth game in six days and saw four freshman pitchers combine to throw eight shutout innings only to have senior Michael Palazzone allow five runs in his one inning of work. Palazzone allowed four hits while walking one to drop his record to 1-5 on the season. Bulldogs coach David Perno talked about his pitchers performance after the game.

"Some of our seniors struggled tonight, but our freshmen pitchers were outstanding," said Georgia coach David Perno. "Michael (Palazzone) wanted to get some work, and I didn't find out until after the fact that he was a little under the weather. He was coming off a great outing so it was tough to see him struggle tonight.

Georgia struck first in the game scoring two runs in the first on RBI hits by Jonathan Hester and Justin Bryan. Furman scored all five of their runs in the fourth inning. Nelson Ward made the score 5-3 in the bottom half of the fourth and Levi Hyams' sacrifice fly in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-4 but the Bulldogs couldn't get any closer.

Georgia opens a key three-game series on Friday in Gainesville against the Florida Gators.
