2012 College Baseball: Georgia Outlasts South Carolina 6-5 In Extra Innings

The Georgia Bulldogs had to play free baseball in Athens on Saturday to take a 6-5 extra-inning victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks in the second game of a 3-game weekend series.

Georgia had a 5-1 lead in the top of the ninth before the bullpen gave up three hits, two walks, and a hit by pitch to allow the Gamecocks to tie the game. In the 10th, Bulldogs center fielder Peter Verdin hit a single, and made it over to third via the stolen base and a groundout. Catcher Joey Delmonico, who finished with three hits and two RBIs, singled in Verdin to secure the 6-5 win.

Georgia is now 29-22 on the season, and 13-13 overall in conference play. The Bulldogs will square up with the Gamecocks in the rubber match of their three-game set at 2 p.m. Eastern Sunday at Foley Field in Athens.
