2012 Triple Crown: Bodemeister To Sit Out Belmont Stakes

Stay connected for news and updates

2012 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes favorite Bodemeister won't attempt to play spoiler for I'll Have Another at the Belmont Stakes according to trainer Bob Baffert.

Baffert indicated that Bodemeister will rest up and point for a return to the races in the July 29 Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park, a race the trainer has won five times, including the last two years with Lookin at Lucky and Coil.

"We were never intending to run in the Belmont," Baffert said. "We wanted to make the Derby and the Preakness was his sixth start this year."

Bodemeister was in position to win both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness before late surges by I'll Have Another. Horse racing hasn't had a triple crown winner since 1978 and now I'll Have Another has one less obstacle in his way.
