2012 UGA Baseball: David Perno To Return For 2013 Season

University of Georgia athletics director Greg McGarity put all rumors revolving around baseball coach David Perno to bed on Thursday saying that the 43-year old coach would be back for the 2013 season.

"Dave will be back next year. It's not even an issue. If you take SEC records over the last two years, and you give credit to South Carolina, Florida and Vandy, and do some research about where the rest of us are ... Over that two-year span we're one game over .500. Arkansas, Ole Miss, LSU, you've got a lot of schools that are right where we are as far as SEC standings."

Georgia is 31-26 and may be on the outside looking in for the NCAA Tournament field after losing its last four games. The Bulldogs dropped two games to a struggling Alabama team and then bowed out quickly from the SEC Tournament with losses to Vanderbilt and Auburn.

2012 SEC Baseball Tournament: Bulldogs Set To Open Tourney Against Commodores

The Georgia Bulldogs have to look at their No. 8 seed in the 2012 SEC Baseball Tournament and feel just a bit disappointed. After all the Bulldogs lost two of three games on the final weekend to Alabama which combined with sweeps by Mississippi State, Arkansas and Vanderbilt dropped Georgia in the standings.

If they are in fact disappointed they are not showing it and seem focused on having a good showing with the hopes of earning an NCAA invite. Head coach David Perno talked about the seeding and Bulldogs starter Alex Wood prior to Tuesday's opening game.

"We knew last week that we could be anywhere from a No. 5 to a No. 10 seed because we're all bunched together as far as our SEC records," Georgia coach David Perno said. "We've played well of late. We've just been a little short in the run category. We're throwing strikes and taking care of the baseball. We feel good with Alex going on Tuesday and he's been as good as anybody we've played."

Georgia will take on fifth seeded Vanderbilt in the final game of Tuesday's action with the first pitch scheduled for around 9 p.m.
