Stay connected for news and updates

Georgia Tech made it interesting late, but they were able to hold off top-seeded Florida State for the 5-4 victory in the first round of the ACC Tournament on Wednesday.

The Yellow Jackets got off to a hot start early, roughing up Seminoles starting pitcher Scott Sitz to the tune of five hits and four earned runs in 4.2 innings pitched.

Georgia Tech starting pitcher Buck Farmar, meanwhile, earned the win while giving up 3 hits and 3 earned runs through six innings of work.

However, Yellow Jackets closer Alex Cruz nearly let Florida State come back, giving up a solo HR in the bottom of the ninth inning to Seminole OF James Ramsay, who had 3 hits and 2 RBI's on the day.

The win gives Georgia Tech an early leg up in pool play, as they will now rest a day before taking on Virginia and Clemson on Friday.
