2012 College Baseball: Georgia Defeats Auburn 6-5 In 11 Innings

The Georgia Bulldogs trailed the Auburn Tigers for the majority of the game, but in the bottom of the 11th inning as Kyle Farmer connected on a RBI-single to give Georgia a 6-5 win over Auburn Saturday at Foley Field.

Michael Palazzone pitched 6 innings and gave up 4 earned runs with 7 hits as the Bulldogs faced a 4-2 deficit going into the seventh inning. Georgia turned it around as Farmer's double scored Conor Welton, then Brett DeLoach came through with another double scoring Farmer. After Auburn pushed the lead to 5-4, Georgia came back with a leadoff walk by Jonathan Hester and was brought in on a fielder's choice by Curt Powell, who reached second on a throwing error. With the game tied at 5-5, Farmer's game-winning single sealed the deal.

Needless to say, Georgia's head coach David Perno was pleased.

"I thought we pitched pretty well today and the defense made some big plays, I liked how we hung in there and battled. We never could break it open; we had some chances early but we didn't give up a big inning either so that helped. I liked how we responded in the 11th. We've been in some close games this year, and I think playing at home helped us today because we've lost some tough ones on the road." -- Bulldogs head coach David Perno
