A consensus has been reached on a four-team playoff system that will determine college football's champion.
Finally, college football fans look like they'll find what they're looking for -- a playoff system. Per Sports Illustrated's Stewart Mandel, a consensus has been reached on a four-team playoff system that will determine the national champion.

The news is massive, and details should be forthcoming in the coming days. Currently, nothing is known except for the fact that it looks like we'll have a four-team playoff. Presidents, though, will have the opportunity to still discuss alternative options, which could include a plus-one system.
While nothing is set in stone, it certainly looks like Wednesday's meetings were a major step in finalizing a playoff system in a sport that desperately needs it.
