Braves Vs. Red Sox Final Score: Mike Minor Struggles, Atlanta Loses 9-4

The Atlanta Braves lose for the second straight day falling 9-4 on Sunday and losing two of three to the Boston Red Sox.

The middle innings once again proved to be more than Mike Minor could handle as the Red Sox scored seven times in the fourth and fifth. Cody Ross and Adrian Gonzalez hit back-to-back homers in the fourth to put Boston up 4-0 in the fourth. Atlanta answered back in the bottom half of the inning cutting the lead to 4-3 with the big blow coming in the form of a two-run triple by Eric Hinske.

Andrelton Simmons' error in the fifth helped jump start another big inning for Boston. The Sox extended the lead to 7-3 while Cody Ross hit his second homer of the game.

Minor gets tagged with his 6th loss of the season allowing seven runs (four earned) in 4 2/3 innings. Minor struck out four while walking three and also allowed three more homers. Aaron Cook picks up the win going five innings and allowing two earned runs.

Jason Heyward continued his torrid offensive streak for the Braves going 3 for 4 with a homer and two runs scored. Heyward has raised his average to .278 on the season. Simmons and Hinske each finished with two hits.

Ross hit his tenth and eleventh homers of the season and drove in five runs for Boston. Adrian Gonzalez and Kevin Youkilis finished with two hits each.

Braves Not Involved In Acquiring Red Sox 3B Kevin Youkilis

The Boston Red Sox have been trying to shop third baseman Kevin Youkilis, and the Atlanta Braves have been one of the teams rumored to be in the running to acquire Youkilis. However, according to Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal the Braves are not involved in trying to land Youkilis.

The Red Sox are looking to move the aging Youkilis since they believe their third base prospect Will Middlebrooks is more than ready to take over, and that clearly seems to be correct as he has 31 RBI in 38 games so far this season.

Other teams that are reportedly in the hunt for Youkilis are the Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers with the White Sox the current leader.

Atlanta Braves Vs. Boston Red Sox: Saturday Preview, TV Schedule And More

Jair Jurrjens' return to the big leagues was quite successful on Friday, as the Braves downed the Red Sox 4-1 in the series opener in Fenway. On Saturday, the Braves will send Randall Delgado to the mound, as Atlanta looks to position themselves for a sweep on Sunday.

Delgado will look to replicate his most recent start -- even though he was saddled with a loss. Last Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles, Delgado pitched eight strong innings, giving up just two runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out six, but the Braves fell 2-0. Delgado carries a 4-7 record, 4.12 ERA, .230 BAA and 1.33 WHIP into Saturday's start.

Atlanta's bats will face off against Franklin Morales, who is starting in place of the injured Josh Beckett. It will be just the second start for Morales this year, but his 24th appearance of the season. Through 28.2 innings, Morales has struck out 29 and walked eight, while giving up just 10 runs on 25 hits. In his first start of the year last Sunday, Morales pitched five innings, giving up two runs on four hits, while walking none and striking out nine.

First pitch between the Braves and Red Sox is scheduled for 7:15 at Fenway Park in Boston. Televised coverage can be found on FOX -- which means MLB.tv will be blacked out for those out of market.

Jair Jurrjens 'Terrific' In Return Against Boston Red Sox

The Atlanta Braves received bad news earlier this week, as the club learned that Brandon Beachy's elbow injury required Tommy John surgery. On Friday night, the Braves witnessed some good news of their own, as Jair Jurrjens pitched into the eighth inning in Boston, giving up just one run on three hits and a walk, while striking out four, en route to a 4-1 win over the Red Sox.

Needless to say, the Braves, and Jurrjens himself, were quite happy with the performance.

Here's what manager Fredi Gonzalez had to say about Jurrjens' return to the bigs:

He was terrific. He really was terrific. I guess it's a little easier to pitch in the big leagues than it is Triple-A.

I was looking forward to watching him pitch today, and now I'm excited about the way he pitched, and keep going. I mean, this is the J.J. of last year when he was going and made the All-Star team. It's a nice lift.

Jurrjens attributed his success to regaining strength -- something he did in AAA.

It wasn't nothing about focus, I was just lacking strength. Going down there and having me correct and get back to my delivery and get my strength back again. I've been working hard, with the pitching coach, Marty Reed, and the trainer, Matt Parvis. I've been working hard with them every day and you can see the hard work paying off today.

Hopefully for the Braves, it's the first of many quality starts for Jurrjens.

Braves Vs. Red Sox Final Score: Jair Jurrjens Throws 7 Strong Innings In 4-1 Win Over Boston

Jair Jurrjens pitched a great game in the Atlanta Braves 4-1 win over the Boston Red Sox. Jurrjens pitched 7.2 innings and held the Red Sox to one run, three hits and struck out four. The Braves relief pitching kept up the dominant pitching by not allowing any runs or hits over the final 1.1 innings.

The Braves took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning when Freddie Freeman led off with a single, made it to third base on a double by Jason Heyward and scored on a groundout by Matt Diaz. Heyward then scored when Andrelton Simmons doubled to left field..

The Braves offense was led by Simmons who drove in two runs for the Braves, and Heyward also had a big night by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and scored a pair of runs.

The win for the Braves was their third straight after losing seven of their last eight games.

Braves Vs. Red Sox: Game Expected To Resume After Hour Rain Delay

The Atlanta Braves and Boston Red Sox have had their game halted by a rain delay that has lasted for just over an hour. The weather is expected to clear at 8:20 p.m., so it was decided to begin the game at that time as there is a short window to begin the game.

There is still rain projected throughout the evening in Boston with Weather.com projecting a 70 percent rain now with the threat of rain increasing throughout the night, and a 95 percent chance of rain is expected to hit the area starting at 10 p.m. and continue through the night.

The game is getting underway as we speak, but the threat of thunderstorms in the area make this game not likely to be completed tonight.
