Atlanta Plans To Bid To Host College Football Playoff Title Game

While the four-team college football playoff that was agreed on by conference commissioners and university presidents is certainly a step in the right direction, it's far from perfect. It is, at least, honest if nothing else.

The playoff system will rotate between six bowl games, with the national championship game each year going to the highest bidding bowl game. Jerry Jones, among others, already announced his intention to try to bring the title game to Dallas, and Atlanta executives aren't far behind Jones.

Those efforts, they said Wednesday, will include a bid by Atlanta to host the championship game for one or more years and probably a bid by the Chick-fil-A Bowl to become a regular rotating site for semifinal games.

"We will do everything we can to position our community and hopefully be successful in the process," said Dan Corso, executive director of the Atlanta Sports Council. "... Obviously a lot of cities will be interested in pursuing this, but we think Atlanta would be a premiere site for the championship game."

It's unknown how much it would cost to bring the title game to Atlanta -- or any city for that matter. It will likely be a substantial figure, but, as Corso said, Atlanta would be an excellent choice to host a title game.

We'll see how this story develops over time, but expect lots of cities to express interest in the title game in the coming weeks and months.
