2012 London Olympics: Allison Schmitt Earns Silver Medal In Women's 400m Freestyle

UGA's Allison Schmitt scored a silver medal on Sunday in the Women's 400 meter freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics and a new American record. Schmitt finished the race with a time of 4:01.77 which was just a fraction behind gold medal winner Camille Muffat who registered an Olympic record 4:01.45.

Schmitt also won a bronze medal on Saturday as a part of the 4x100 meter freestyle relay team. She is also scheduled to take part in the 200 meter freestyle competition that will take place on Monday.

Schmitt took last year off from school while preparing for the games but is set to compete this season as a senior at Georgia. This is her second trip to the Olympics having competed during the 2008 Games in Beijing
