2012 Olympic Medal Count: USA Captures The Most Gold And Overall Medals

It comes as a shock to absolutely nobody, but the United States of America took home the most medals, as well as the most gold medals, during the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

American Olympians paved the way with a grand total of 104 medals, including 46 gold medals. The United States notably captured the gold medal in major team sports such as men's basketball, women's basketball and women's soccer. The Americans also captured 29 silver medals, which is also more than any other country, as well as 29 bronze medals.

China, who led the Olympics in overall and gold medals at a few points during the Games, finished second in both categories. Chinese Olympians earned 38 gold medals, the second-most of any participating country, to go along with 27 silver and 23 bronze medals, for 88 total medals.

Russia (82 total, 24 gold), Great Britain (65 total, 29 gold) and Germany (44 total, 11 gold) round out the top-five.
