Bill Curry Retirement: Panthers Still Focused On Season

Georgia State head coach Bill Curry announced his retirement on Wednesday effective at the end of the Panthers season which coincidentally will be their last as a non Division I program. During his announcement, Curry tried to deflect as much attention from himself as he could saying that he and his team are still focused on the upcoming season.

"There will be a time for thanks and reminiscing and happiness and sadness at the end of the season, but my reason for doing this now is so Georgia State football and be focused on this season,"

Curry acknowledged that these types of announcements could be a negative for the program but he and his staff are trying to prevent that from happening.

AD Cheryl Levick said that Curry will continue to work with Georgia State as a special assistant to the athletic director. She also indicated that a national search would be conducted to find Curry's replacement but that interviews wouldn't begin until after the season.
