UGA Preseason 2012: Malcolm Mitchell Shining On Defense

UGA sophomore Malcolm Mitchell has yet to play a snap at offense in Georgia's two preseason scrimmages, notes Seth Emerson at the Telegraph. Mitchell has transitioned to cornerback for the 2012 season after putting up strong numbers as a freshman wide receiver.

Mitchell was a true freshman in 2011, and finished the season ranked fourth in the SEC in receiving, with 60.5 yards per game, and fifth in receptions, with 4.1 per game. But with the Bulldogs facing a depleted secondary in the 2012 season, Mitchell moved to the defensive side of the ball.

Sophomore receiver Chris Conley noted how Mitchell was especially well suited to the transition:

"His game is so different from other guys, because he’s so versatile," Conley said. "He has a lot of size, a lot of speed, a lot of quickness. He has a lot of different attributes, and he also has so many tools he can use, that he can make plays in all sorts of situations."

Considering what Mitchell was able to achieve as a freshman, his sophomore season could bring big returns for UGA.
