Roger Federer is two wins away from his first singles gold medal after downing former Georgia tennis star John Isner in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
A medal is the one thing missing from Federer's impeccable resume. He defeated Isner 6-4, 7-6 (5). From the AP, via The Augusta Chronicle
"Being in the medal matches, at least I'll get two shots," Federer said. "That's why I looked at this match as a final. You can imagine the relief and happiness I feel right now."
Isner was the last American remaining in men's tennis singles. The Swiss Federer will face Argentine Juan Martin del Potro on Friday, while the other semifinal will see home favorite Brit Andy Murray against Serbian Novak Djokovic.
