Patience is the key with Andrelton Simmons as he continues to make his way back to the field after breaking a bone in his hand six weeks ago.
Manager Fredi Gonzalez see his youngster making strides, albeit at a moderate pace.
"We’re progressing but slowly," Gonzalez said. "They’ve (X-rayed) it every 6-7 days and it’s healing. We want to make sure it doesn’t take a step backwards if we push him too hard. But I think you’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel."
Originally expected back sometime in August, it appears Simmons might not be able to get in the lineup until the middle of September.
Before he was injured, the 22-year-old was hitting .296 with three home runs and 15 RBI.
