2012 Falcons Preseason: Peria Jerry Looking To Turn Heads

Peria Jerry is trying to get some attention from the Atlanta Falcons coaching staff.

After being drafted in the first round back in 2009, Jerry has been a disappointment due to a litany of issues, especially injuries.

However, with a clean bill of health and a new defensive coordinator in Mike Nolan, Jerry feels like he has a fresh start, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

"I’m feeling better than I have felt since my rookie year, but I’m just going to stay focused and keep working hard every day," he said.

Normally Corey Peters would be starting in place of Jerry, but he's dealing with a foot injury which has left the door ajar. Jerry has looked good in camp and has certainly gotten the eye of Nolan.

"Yeah, he’s done a nice job," Nolan said. "He did a nice job the other day in the game. He’s done well. Somebody has to step up. [Vance] Walker was out for a couple of weeks. But, I would say thus far that we are pleased with P.J."

Even the opposition has seen the improvement.

"One of the biggest surprises that I’ve seen is that Peria Jerry is finally playing after three years," said a scout who has watched Atlanta four times this year. "He’s finally making some plays."

If Jerry's success can continue into September, it could be a very pleasant surprise for Falcons fans.
