Jacksonville Vs. Georgia Southern: Eagles Look To Stay On Top

Stay connected for news and updates

Georgia Southern begins its highly anticipated 2012 season against Jacksonville on Sept. 1 ,and the Eagles are looking to stay on top of the FCS rankings throughout the season. They still need to figure out who their starting quarterback is.

Between sophomore Ezayi Youyoute and junior Jerick McKinnon, the Eagles are looking for someone to lead their triple-option offense that was No. 2 in the country in rushing. Defensive tackle Brent Russell leads Georgia Southern's 4-3 front.

The Eagles went to the FCS semifinal round before losing to the eventual national champion North Dakota State, who defeated Sam Houston State in the title game in Frisco.

This year's Georgia Southern team returns eight starters on offense and defense. It will be interesting to see if the best teams in the FCS are the same as last season, since NDSU and SHSU also return a lot of starters from the championship game.
