2012 Olympics Results: Aries Merritt Wins Gold In 110m Hurdles

Another day, another gold medal for the United States in a track and field event. Georgia's own Aries Merritt won the gold medal in the men's 110m hurdles on Wednesday, his only scheduled event at the 2012 Olympics.

Merritt won the race with a time of 12.92, narrowly missing out on the world record of 12.87, set by Cuban Dayron Robles in 2008.

Fellow American Jason Richardson finished in second place, earning the silver medal. Richardson posted a time of 13.04. Like Merritt, the race is Richardson's only schedule event in the 2012 Olympic Games.

Jamaican Hansle Parchment earned the bronze medal, finishing with a time of 13.12.

Robles, who owns the world record, participated in the event, but was disqualified, and finished in eighth.

The two medals bring the United States' medal count in track and field up to a staggering 18, 10 ahead of second-place Russia, and 12 ahead of third-place Jamaica.
