Paul Janish Injury: Backup Shortstop's Shoulder Injury Is 'Significant'

Backup Atlanta Braves shortstop Paul Janish returned to Atlanta on Wednesday to see a shoulder specialist, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Janish injured his shoulder in the ninth inning of the Braves' 10-inning loss to the Miami Marlins on Tuesday.

The exact extent of the injury is unclear, but manager Fredi Gonzalez did not give an optimistic report. "They'll do all the tests," he said, "whether it's an MRI, X-ray, whatever they've got to do.... He won't play for a while. It's significant."

Janish had stepped in to the game for Martin Prado, who had moved in from left field to cover for starting shortstop Andrelton Simmons. With a day off Thursday, Gonzalez said there was a good possibility Simmons would be ready to return on Friday, when the Braves face the Philadelphia Phillies.
