2012 U.S. Open Tennis Scores: Andy Murray, David Ferrer Advance On Sunday

Stay connected for news and updates

Andy Murray successfully held off his impending retirement for another day as he defeated Fabio Fognini in four sets to advance to the round-of-16. Murray needed four sets to advance past Fognini winning the first two sets 7-5 and 7-6. Murray dropped the third set 4-6 before coming back to take the fourth set 6-4.

Earlier in the day David Ferrer defeated Lleyton Hewitt 7-6 (11-9), 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 to advance. Hewitt need look no further than his 72 unforced errors as the biggest reason for his loss. Ferrer is the U.S. Open's fourth ranked player but is seldom talked about among tournament favorites. However, his win on Sunday moves him into the fourth-round as well.

Former University of Georgia star John Isner will take on Philipp Kohlschreiber in Sunday's late match at approximately 9 p.m. ET.
