Vanderbilt Vs. Georgia: Todd Grantham and James Franklin's Handshake Causes Little Drama This Year

Stay connected for news and updates

After the Georgia Bulldogs' tense 33-28 win over the Vanderbilt Commodores in 2011, UGA defensive coordinator Todd Grantham got into an altercation with Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin which was in the headlines for weeks. The 2012 version of the game contained much less drama, both on the field and off it. According to The Telegraph (Macon, GA), Grantham didn't have much to say about this year's post game handshake.

"We were just gonna go out there and have a group hug and then everybody was gonna go their way and move on. They coach them hard, they play hard, they're working to try to be competitive. So we're all competitive. We shook hands and moved on and it's over with."

Grantham also refused to say that the altercation gave Georgia any extra motivation for the game:

"I'm really just proud for the players. Because thay maintained their focus and did what was the right thing in playing the game. We're getting ready to play an excellent Tennessee team that's got a bunch of NFL players. They play an NFL system."
