MTSU vs. Georgia Tech score: Blue Raiders lead 35-21 after three quarters

Middle Tennessee State is giving Georgia Tech all they can handle at home. After three quarters, the Blue Raiders lead the Yellow Jackets, 35-21.

Benny Cunningham has been a problem that Georgia Tech hasn't been able to solve with the senior tailback running all over the Yellow Jackets' defense. He's carried the ball 15 times on the day for 140 yards and three touchdowns. Cunningham broke off a huge touchdown which would've given him four scores, but the play was negated due to a holding call.

The Blue Raiders took a 28-21 lead on a five-play, 68-yard drive highlighted with a spectacular 23-yard run by Cunningham, who ran over three Yellow Jacket defenders en route to the end zone. MTSU then took a two touchdown lead on a 75-yard pass play by Logan Kilgore to Marcus Henry, giving the Blue Raiders a 35-21 advantage with just under two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The Yellow Jackets have their work cut out for them entering the final quarter.

MTSU vs. Georgia Tech score: Blue Raiders and Yellow Jackets tied at 21 at half

The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders don't appear to be intimidated at all by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Playing in the less than friendly confines of Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta, the Blue Raiders have been aggressive in their attack and go into halftime tied with their hosts, 21-21.

At the end of the first quarter, the score was all knotted at seven. But 10 seconds into the second quarter, MTSU scored on a 60-yard rushing touchdown by Benny Cunningham to give the Blue Raiders a 14-7 lead. Georgia Tech would answer on a well orchestrated, 11-play, 69-yard drive that ended with a three-yard touchdown run by Tevin Washington, evening the score, 14-14.

Middle Tennessee then returned fire and shocked the Yellow Jackets on a 12-play, 88-yard drive that ended with another rushing touchdown by Cunningham, bringing the score to 21-14. Georgia Tech evened things up late in the quarter on another touchdown run by Washington, capping off a nine-play, 45-yard Yellow Jackets drive.

MTSU vs. Georgia Tech update: Yellow Jackets and Blue Raiders tied 7-7 after first quarter

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders are knotted up, 7-7, after the opening quarter in Atlanta.

The Yellow Jackets got on the board early after MTSU quarterback Logan Kilgore was picked off by Jabari Hunt-Days on the Georgia Tech 48 yard line. That set-up a five play, 53-yard scoring drive, capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by Tevin Washington to put Georgia Tech up 7-0.

But the Blue Raiders would come right back and tie things up as Kilgore orchestrated a 12-play, 75-yard scoring drive that ended with an incredible one-handed catch in the back of the end zone by wideout Anthony Amos.

The remainder of the quarter would yield no more points for either team.

MTSU Vs. Georgia Tech: Secondary looks to play better

Georgia Tech has Middle Tennessee State on its schedule this weekend as the Yellow Jackets look to make up for blowing a 14-point lead to the MIami Hurricanes Saturday. Tech is going to need its secondary to be on its game going against Middle Tennessee State's spread option attack.

Here's Tech head coach Paul Johnson at Wednesday's news conference:

"I think that before Saturday, they played fairly well. Saturday was not a great day for anybody. It's like anything else. When you're playing coverage back there and you're matched up and there's not a lot of pressure, there's going to be some exposure. I think you have to give the other team some credit. They have pretty good receivers and their quarterback was hot and they made some plays."

Middle Tennessee State is coming off a 48-30 win against Memphis last weekend. Quarterback Logan Kilgore threw for 253 yards, a pair of touchdowns, and completed 73 percent of his passes.

MTSU Vs. Georgia Tech: Paul Johnson trying to keep team motivated

Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson is working hard to keep the Yellow Jackets motivated in the face of two conference losses, reports the Macon Telegraph. After an overtime loss to Miami on Saturday, Georgia Tech's hopes of an ACC Championship are slim, but Johnson is focused on continuing. Quoted in the Telegraph:

"You keep playing. I've always said from a coaching standpoint from whatever you do, you just keep playing one game at a time, and, if you do what you're supposed to do, come November there will be some big games.

"We've still got a ton to play for. We've played one third of our season, so you can get on a roll. Last year is a great example. We got off to a great start and didn't finish well. This year we got off to a mediocre start, maybe we have a great finish. You can't (get) too far ahead of yourself, you just got to keep going."

Georgia Tech next faces the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders, a game where they are favored by more than 20 points. The Yellow Jackets generally find Johnson's motivations effective. Johnson is 33-19 with the team, including a conference division title and a conference title that was later vacated due to NCAA sanctions.

MTSU Vs. Georgia Tech: WR Jeremy Moore returns to team

Wide Receiver Jeremy Moore has returned to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The junior left the team earlier in September, citing personal reasons, but returned nine days later asking to return. Head coach Paul Johnson left the decision up to the seniors on the team, who took him back.

Moore has only seen action in one game of the 2012 season. He caught three passes in Georgia Tech's 59-3 win over the Presbyterian Blue Horse. He collected 50 yards, including one reception good for 50.

Georgia Tech is 2-2. They play the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in Week 5 hoping to rebound from their 42-36 overtime loss to the Miami Hurricanes.
