Rockies Vs. Braves Final Score: Atlanta Takes 1-0 Victory

The Atlanta Braves defeated the Colorado Rockies, 1-0, to earn their third win of a four-game series on Thursday afternoon. Tim Hudson pitched well for the Braves, going seven shutout innings.

The Rockies handed the Braves their only run when Jhoulys Chacin mishandled a routine return throwback from the catcher. Juan Francisco alertly scored on the play. Chacin took the loss after allowing just the one unearned run.

Francisco was on third after being moved over on a ground rule double by Dan Uggla. The double was the only extra-base hit for the Braves in the game.

The Braves move to 4-3 on this homestand with the series victory over the Rockies. They travel to New York next to start a six-game road trip.

Mike Minor Flirts With No-Hitter As Braves Win, 1-0

The Atlanta Braves went 0-for-11 with runners in scoring position and scored their lone run on a throwing error against the Rockies on Wednesday night. Given their recent struggles, no one will be complaining in the clubhouse.

Mike Minor was the story on this night, flirting with a no-hitter as the seventh inning arrived. Minor had surrendered just two walks and saw a batter reach on error, but he had been perfect other than that. It was a line drive single from Jordan Pacheco with no outs in the seventh that finally broke the no hitter, which prompted a rousing ovation from the 16,714 at Turner Field.

Minor finished his night tossing seven shutout innings, allowing just the one hit, four walks and striking out seven.

With runners on first and second and no outs in the fourth, Brian McCann grounded out sharply to second baseman DJ LeMahieu. He flipped to shortstop Josh Rutledge, who fired errantly to first base. The ball rolled into the dugout, advancing Chipper Jones across the plate for the first run of the game.

Craig Kimbrel entered in the eighth inning and struck out the lone batter he faced with two on base. He then worked around a two-out walk as he struck out three more in the ninth to secure the 1-0 victory.

The Braves and Rockies will meet again at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

Braves Vs Rockies Lineups: Atlanta Sending Out Mike Minor To Pitch

The Atlanta Braves are looking to rebound after a 6-0 loss to the Colorado Rockies they suffered on Tuesday night. The Braves are trying to create some breathing room in the N.L. wild card spot, and a win against the lowly Rockies is a way to achieve that.

Mike Minor is getting the start for the Braves, this year he has struggled with a 7-10 record and an ERA of 4.79. This will be Minor's second start against the Rockies, the last being all the way back on May 5. In that game Minor played poorly by giving up eight runs in only five innings of work.

The Braves also have mixed up their lineup from Tuesday with Jose Constanza playing left field and batting eighth, Dan Uggla is back in the lineup at second base after getting a night off and Brian McCann will be behind the plate and will be hitting sixth in the lineup.

Braves lineup:

1. Michael Bourn CF
2. Martin Prado SS
3. Jason Heyward RF
4. Chipper Jones 3B
5. Freddie Freeman 1B
6. Brian McCann C
7. Dan Uggla 2B
8. Jose Constanza LF
9. Mike Minor P

Rockies lineup:

1. Dexter Fowler CF
2. Josh Rutledge SS
3. Carlos Gonzalez LF
4. Jordan Pacheco 1B
5. Ramon Hernandez C
6. Chris Nelson 3B
7. Andrew Brown RF
8. DJ LeMahieu 2B

Rockies Vs. Braves: Atlanta Tries To Recover Wednesday

The Atlanta Braves will try to recover Wednesday from an ugly 6-0 Tuesday loss to the Colorado Rockies in the third game of a four-game series at Atlanta's Turner Field.

The Braves will send left-hander Mike Minor to the mound Wednesday night. Minor pitched five innings of four-run ball, but it was the first time since June 30 the 24-year-old gave up four earned runs in a start. In Minor's only other start of the season against the Rockies on May 5, he gave up eight runs (all earned) and 10 hits in five innings. A classic Coors Field shootout, the Braves still won 13-9.

Pitching for Colorado is right-handed Alex White. White, who has given up three or fewer earned runs in seven straight starts, is in his first full season as a major leaguer. He was traded from the Cleveland Indians as part of the Ubaldo Jimenez trade last July, so he's still seeing National League teams for the first time. Wednesday will be his first time facing the Braves.

MLB.com's Tyler Emerick wrote on White's first time throwing against the Braves, who was a diehard Braves fan growing up in North Carolina during Atlanta's run in the 1990s.

From Emerick:

Although White, 24, realizes it'll be his job to sit down the Braves' lineup when he takes the mound, he can't help but be excited about pitching against the likes of veteran third baseman Chipper Jones.

"He's a good hitter, I'm going to have to work hard to get him out," White said. "I've watched him play for a long time, and it'll be fun. It's also one of those things where I have to get the guy out. They're a good team, and that's pretty obvious. I'm going to have to throw well to keep our team in it tomorrow."

First pitch between the Braves and Colorado is at 7:05 p.m. ET on SportSouth in Atlanta.

Braves Commit Three Errors, Lose 6-0 To Rockies

The Atlanta Braves did not play their best baseball on Tuesday night, losing by a score of 6-0. Tommy Hanson pitched his best start since coming off the disabled list four weeks ago, but that was not enough as the offense fell short against Drew Pomeranz and a struggling Rockies bullpen.

Carlos Gonzalez and Jordan Pacheco hit a solo home run in the fourth and fifth inning, respectively, which gave Colorado the early 2-0 lead. Hanson departed shortly after, giving way to Peter Moylan, Luis Avilan, Chad Durbin and Miguel Batista. These four relievers combined to surrender four runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks. The Rockies scored two runs in the seventh and eighth inning, all but ending what was a disappointing night at Turner Field.

The Braves roped out nine hits, although only one was an extra-base hit -- a double from David Ross. Michael Bourn and Martin Prado were thrown out trying to steal, with Prado being tagged out just inches away from home plate.

Sloppy does not begin to describe the game this evening, and we can only hope it does not become a trend in the coming weeks.

Rockies Vs Braves Lineups: Tuesday Night Lineups

The Atlanta Braves look to extend their modest winning streak to three games on Tuesday night, when they play host to the Colorado Rockies in the second game of a four-game series.

Both Jim Tracy and Fredi Gonzalez have announced their starting lineups for Tuesday night's contest, and they are as follows:

Colorado Rockies

  1. Dexter Fowler, CF
  2. Josh Rutledge, SS
  3. Carlos Gonzalez, LF
  4. Wilin Rosario, C
  5. Tyler Colvin, RF
  6. Jordan Pacheco, 1B
  7. Chris Nelson, 3B
  8. DJ LeMahieu, 2B
  9. Drew Pomeranz, SP

Atlanta Braves

  1. Michael Bourn, CF
  2. Reed Johnson, LF
  3. Chipper Jones, 3B
  4. Freddie Freeman, 1B
  5. Martin Prado, 2B
  6. Jason Heyward, RF
  7. David Ross, C
  8. Paul Janish, SS
  9. Tommy Hanson, SP

Noticeably absent from the starting lineup is Braves second baseman Dan Uggla, who is no longer an everyday player.

The inconsistent Hanson has a perfect opportunity to rebound against a struggling Rockies lineup that becomes significantly less potent in the bottom half of the order. We'll see if he can right the ship as the Braves look to gain ground on the Nationals in the National League East race and maintain their lead for one of the league's two Wild Card spots.

Andrelton Simmons Injury: Braves Shortstop Begins Rehab Stint At Mississippi

Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons began his rehab stint with Atlanta's Double-A affiliate, the Mississippi Braves, on Monday as he recovers from a broken pinky finger, which happened in July. The 22-year-old is set to play three games over four days -- with different teams -- as he prepares to move back up to the majors.

Simmons finished Monday's game 1-3 at the plate in his first action on the diamond in just under two months.

On Wednesday, Simmons will join the Single-A Rome Braves for their game and on Thursday he will travel to Lynchburg, Va., to play with the high-A Hillcats in their contest. He is expected to rejoin the Braves as early as next weekend when the team travels to New York to take on the Mets.

Brian McCann Injury: Braves Catcher Gets Another Cortisone Shot

Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann received a cortisone shot in his injured right shoulder on Saturday night. McCann has been playing through a frayed labrum and cyst, and manager Fredi Gonzalez said he hopes this latest shot helps McCann turn a corner.

"Hopefully this will get him over the hump," said Gonzalez, who said he will try to pick spots to rest McCann going forward. "I think he's a lot closer. His at-bats are good, but it's bothering him. It bites him."

Braves Will Call Up Cory Gearrin And Julio Teheran

Atlanta will add pitchers Cory Gearrin and Julio Teheran to its major league roster ahead of Tuesday's game, according to Braves Radio Network reporter Kevin McAlpin.

Related: Braves Bench Dan Uggla

Gearrin has made 12 appearances for the Braves in 2012, all of them in relief. He has a 0.79 ERA with 11 strikeouts and two walks over 11-1/3 innings of work. He has also made 39 appearances for triple-A Gwinnett, where he is 3-3 with a 2.30 ERA. Over 54-2/3 innings at triple-A, he has 66 strikeouts and 22 walks.

Teheran has also played for the Braves this season -- his lone appearance was a start that lasted just 4-1/3 innings back on June 10. In 26 starts for Gwinnett, he is 7-9 with a 5.08 ERA.

Rockies Vs. Braves Final Score: Kris Medlen K's 12 In Complete-Game Effort, Atlanta Wins 6-1

Michael Bourn called Chipper Jones a "bad man" following their walk-off win on Sunday night. If Chipper is a bad man, I'm not sure there's an adjective out there to properly describe Kris Medlen.

Medlen tossed a complete game against a red-hot Rockies lineup on Monday afternoon, allowing just one unearned run to score as the Braves won 6-1. He struck out 12 batters, did not walk anyone and reached a three-ball count just two times. Most importantly, the Braves have now won his last 18 starts, the longest stretch in recent baseball history.

Atlanta was gifted a couple of runs early. A wild pitch scored Michael Bourn for the first inning, which was followed by a two-error play that plated another run.

A sacrifice fly from Martin Prado made it 3-0 in the third. Juan Francisco delivered an RBI-single to drive home another run, and then David Ross came up with a key two-out, two-run double to push the lead to 6-0.

The Rockies' lone run came on a throwing error from Paul Janish, who had made a diving stop on a ball hit into the hole. He threw errantly to Prado at second base, sending the ball into shallow right field.

The Braves and Rockies will meet again on Tuesday night at 7:10 p.m. ET.

Rockies Vs. Braves: Dan Uggla Out Of Starting Role

When talking about last season's September collapse Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said that he was too patient with slumping players and that is clearly working against Dan Uggla this season. Gonzalez informed Uggla on Sunday that he was being replaced in the starting lineup and that "he didn't know how much playing time he would get the rest of the way." For the second straight day Gonzalez has Martin Prado penciled in at second base and Uggla out of the lineup.

Uggla talked about the situation with MLB.com reporter Mark Bowman and says that Gonzalez really didn't explain anything to him.

"He just said we need to make a change and I do not know how much playing time you are going to get (the rest of the season)."

Uggla voiced his displeasure to Gonzalez on Sunday but the Braves manager indicated that he thought the veteran second baseman took it well.

"I think he took it the right way," Gonzalez said. "Obviously it's uncomfortable and it's hard, especially with the relationship I have with him. You want your players to be upset if they are not in there. But knowing him going through September, he's either going to have a big at-bat when he pinch hits. Or we're going to put him in a game and he's going to have a big game that gets us to the postseason."

Perhaps the only explanation that Uggla should get is the fact that he has hit .153 over his last 73 games.
