Tennessee Vs. Georgia: Damian Swann records first career pick

Daniel Shirey-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Sophomore cornerback Damian Swann grabbed the first interception of his career on Saturday against Tennessee

For sophomore Damian Swann, the first interception of his career couldn't have come at a better time.

Facing an explosive Tennessee team that pushed the No. 5 Bulldogs to the limit on Saturday, the sophomore grabbed his first-ever pick in the second quarter.

Volunteer quarterback Tyler Bray's pass was tipped by Bulldog linebacker Alec Ogletree and found Swann's hungry arms.

Although he grabbed the ball with one hand only, Swann told the Augusta Chronicle that no style points would be awarded for his pick.

"It wasn’t the prettiest (interception)," Swann said. "But it felt good to get the first one under my belt.

"A lot of guys said they were around me. I was always taught to catch the ball at the highest point, so I went up as high as I could to go get it.

"I just grabbed it, wrapped it up and gave it to the ref."

Swainn's pick looked like it would sent all of the momentum to the Bulldogs after Todd Gurley broke off a 51-yard touchdown run just two plays later, but the Vols rallied with 20 points to grab the lead before a late Georgia field goal tied it at 30 right before halftime.

The Bulldogs head to South Carolina this weekend to take on the No. 6 Gamecocks.
