Braves Vs. Yankees Final Score: Jordan Schafer Goes Yard As Braves Beat Yankees, 6-2

Tommy Hanson allowed one run in four innings and Jordan Schafer broke out with a homer and two hits as the Braves beat the Yankees, 6-2.

Hanson's lone run allowed came on a solo home run by Jorge Posada in the second inning. He gave up a double to Andruw Jones in the first with no damage done. He gave up a single to Derek Jeter in the third, but Jeter was caught stealing. Alex Rodriguez doubled and Eduardo Nunez singled in the fourth, but Hanson left both in scoring position.

So Hanson wasn't exactly dominant, and he left more balls over the plate, but he got the job done with runners on base. He struck out two with no walks.

Kenshin Kawakami pitched a scoreless fifth in his spring debut. He walked Justin Maxwell to lead off the inning, but Maxwell was caught stealing. That was followed by groundouts from Austin Krum and Jeter. Aside from the walk, Kawakami was pretty sharp.

Scott Proctor was less than sharp in the sixth, walking Jones and giving up a single to Mark Teixeira, which led to a run on a fielder's choice. He did follow the two baserunners with two grounders, so there's that. Proctor pitched a perfect seventh with a strikeout and two groundouts. He seemed to settle down nicely and pitched well after allowing the run.

Craig Kimbrel allowed a walk to begin the eighth, but it was followed with a strikeout and two groundouts against minor leaguers. Anthony Varvaro pitched a perfect ninth with two groundouts and a flyout, which was a nice rebound outing.

Schafer hit a home run off Phil Hughes in the second, and he added a bunt single off Hughes in the fourth. He also struck out and flew out, going 2-4 with a RBI.

Martin Prado and Jason Heyward had two hits apiece, including a double for Prado. Chipper Jones, Brent Clevlen, Matt Young, Wilkin Castillo and Ed Lucas recorded one RBI each. Freddie Freeman added a single and a walk.

Diory Hernandez picked up two singles in four trips, though he had a shaky play or two in the infield. He seems to be impressing with his bat more than his defense this spring.

Stock:
Proctor didn't pitch that bad once he allowed the first two hitters to reach. He recorded five groundouts and a strikeout in two innings. Every outing from here on is important for Proctor, so something like five groundouts can be pretty big.

Hernandez and Lucas each did well and probably didn't gain much from today's game. Brooks Conrad also picked up a single but struck out twice.

Braves Vs. Yankees, Spring Training: Brian McCann Returns To Lineup; Kenshin Kawakami To Make Appearance

The Atlanta Braves hit the road to face the New York Yankees at 1:05. A couple of great young pitchers are getting their starts.

Braves Lineup:

1. Martin Prado, LF

2. Brooks Conrad, 2B

3. Chipper Jones, DH

4. Brian McCann, C

5. Jason Heyward, RF

6. Ed Lucas, 3B

7. Freddie Freeman, 1B

8. Jordan Schafer, CF

9. Diory Hernandez, SS

Braves Pitchers: Tommy Hanson, Kenshin Kawakami, Anthony Varvaro, Craig Kimbrel, Scott Proctor.

Tommy Hanson will face the likes of Derek Jeter, Andruw Jones, Mark Teixeira, Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada in today's game. Phil Hughes gets the start for the Yankees.

Brooks Conrad gets a rare start at second base, and Ed Lucas will be at third. Diory Hernandez is at shortstop, so we have all three on the field at once vying for a roster spot. This is certainly the focus of the game.

Brian McCann returns to action after hitting coach Luis Salazar in the face with a line drive Wednesday. He took most of Wednesday off and all of Thursday to regain his thoughts.

Chipper Jones returns to the lineup at DH. Nate McLouth remains out with a sore shoulder, so the struggling Jordan Schafer gets more at bats in center.

Kenshin Kawakami makes his first spring appearance for the Braves.

Eric O'Flaherty has been replaced by Anthony Varvaro in the pitching lineup today. No reason has been given yet.
