Julio Teheran To Start For Braves On Wednesday In Place Of Brandon Beachy

It's finally official: Julio Teheran will start in place of Brandon Beachy on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, according to Mark Bowman.

The No. 1 pitching prospect in baseball will get the call back up following just one start at Triple-A Gwinnett between Major League starts. He allowed two runs on three hits in 7.2 innings against Durham in that outing, walking four and striking out seven while throwing 120 pitches.

Teheran's major league debut went fairly well, allowing three runs on four hits in 4.2 innings against the Phillies, walking two and striking out one on May 7. He battled command issues due to nerves, but he showed flashes of brilliance by throwing some solid stuff.

Teheran's start on May 18 may only be another spot start. Off days have things scheduled to where he may not have to pitch again until May 31. If the Braves choose to go this route, he would be sent back down in favor of an extra arm for the bullpen. But he may also stay up and pitch the day following an off day, giving the rotation an extra day of rest. It's not known how they will handle this.

Choosing Teheran over Mike Minor is still confusing to me, but it shows two things: The Braves have a ton of confidence in the 20-year-old to bring him back up this quickly, and they apparently think little of Minor at this point.
