Atlanta Braves Trade Rumors: Carlos Beltran May Return To New York In 2012

Stay connected for news and updates

There is no doubt the Mets are looking to trade Carlos Beltran for the final two months of the 2011 season. After those two months, though, Beltran will become a free agent and could sign with pretty much any team who could afford his new contract. Could he go back to the Mets, who he spent the last seven seasons with? Maybe.

From an article in the New York Times earlier today:

According to two people in baseball familiar with the situation, the team contacted Scott Boras, Beltran's agent, and asked if he would be amenable to that notion. They were informed that Beltran would be willing to consider the idea of re-signing with the Mets in the off-season, even if he is traded in the coming days.

Do the Braves risk trading one of their better pitching prospects for two months of Beltran, just for the outfielder to sign with his old club in two months when he becomes a free agent? It's something to consider.
