The Atlanta Braves made their first trade of the year Wednesday, and it was for Brewers backup catcher Wil Nieves.
Please do not mistake this trade for something more; this is simply a move to add organizational depth while Brian McCann is on the disabled list. Nieves will have absolutely no effect on the Braves at the trade deadline and I'd be surprised if he gets more than three or four at-bats in Atlanta. Basically, he's a healthy body who is capable of being a catcher for a few innings should something come up.
The Braves sent cash considerations to the Brewers in exchange for the catcher. I'd be surprised if it was anything more than a few thousand dollars or so.
