Braves Call Up Top-Prospect Arodys Vizcaino, Release Scott Proctor

When the trade deadline passed ten days ago, a lot of fans in Braves Country were let down by the fact the team did not acquire a right-handed relief pitcher to help the team down the stretch. The bullpen had been a strength all year, but injuries and heavy usage were starting to show as the unit started to struggle.

Now we all know why Frank Wren didn't trade for a reliever. He already had the best one on the market, only he was pitching at Triple-A Gwinnett.

Top-prospect Arodys Vizcaino, who was ranked No. 13 in Keith Law's mid-season top-100 prospect list, is coming to Atlanta. To make room for the 20-year flamethrower the team has released the struggling Scott Proctor

So what does Vizcaino throw? His fastball sits right around 95mph, though it has been recorded in the high-90's, including recently at the MLB Futures Game. His curveball is his best pitch and is arguably one of the best breaking balls in the Minor Leagues. Vizzy also features a changeup that he has worked hard on to improve this season.

This is a big move for the Braves. Now each of their Four Pitchers Of The Pitchopalypse - Vizcaino, Julio Teheran, Mike Minor, Randall Delgado -- have all reached the Major Leagues in 2011. Get used to them, they're going to be here for a long time.

Vizcaino will be in Florida tonight and is available for manager Fredi Gonzalez to turn lose on the opposition.
