Tommy Hanson Has Small Tear In Shoulder, Hopes To Return In 2011

Stay connected for news and updates

Tommy Hanson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list twice this season with a shoulder injury. The first time around, Hanson was fine after two weeks of rest and returned to the mound. He was not so lucky the second time.

#Braves pitcher Hanson has small rotator-cuff tear, kind that often doesn't require surgery. They hope he's back in "few weeks," Wren said.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck Favorite Retweet Reply

While a return for the post-season could still happen, it is absolutely essential for Hanson's shoulder to be completely healthy before returning to the mound. A shoulder injury can destroy a pitcher's career and we do not need to rush him back to the mound.

As far as the next few weeks go, Mike Minor will continue to get starts on the mound. Look for the Braves to announce some kind of projected starting rotation once the weekend passes. Once again, the organization's incredible amount of depth will pay off. Most teams would be scrambling to replace one of their best pitchers as the playoffs near, Atlanta calls up (or continues to use, in this case) a top-prospect to fill in nicely.
