Arodys Vizcaino Injury Update: Braves Pitcher Out For Season With Tommy John Surgery

Stay connected for news and updates

The Spring Training woes for the Atlanta Braves continue. One of the top prospects in their system, pitcher Arodys Vizcaino, has his elbow examined on Monday after being diagnosed with ulnar neuritis. The Braves were hoping for a short recovery time, but it appears they were not so lucky.

David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported on Tuesday that Vizcaino has a torn ligament and has undergone Tommy John surgery. The operation will keep Vizcaino out for the year. The hope is that the pitcher will be ready to pitch again by Spring Training 2013.

Certainly a blow to the team, as they were hoping for big things from Vizcaino this year. The pitcher had previously partially torn the same ligament in 2010, but it was able to heal without surgery at the time.
